Refereeing confusion

I see in the Maidenhead game, Cook had a 'goal' disallowed against Windsor when he scored from a drop ball which he lobbed over Martini's head. To make matters worse, he got booked for his troubles also. We all remember that Matty had one disallowed at Dover in similar fashion but on what grounds?

Take the scenario where a drop ball is 'properly' contested just outside the area. Defender makes contact with the ball and it ricochetes off the attacker and back past the keeper into the goal. I assume the referee awards the goal.

Why then does he disallow it when he and the opposing team have allowed a player to have a free shot at it? Book him for ungentlemanly conducted maybe, but I cannot see how the goal can be disallowed under the rules. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

Shame it was by a Maidenhead player really. I can't take pleasure in them beating anyone, even if it is Windsor!

I dont believe that there are any grounds to dissalow the goal under those circumstances. Though to be fair to the Ref at Dover he blew his whistle well before the ball went into the net. You may have missed yeovil conceeding a freak goal in the same week in one of the cups. Same thing - uncontested dropped ball that was sent back to the keeper and the Yeovil player over hit it scoring a goal. A full league ref allowed the goal on the basis that there was nothing in the rules to cover a non contested drop, and that if one side didnt go for the ball that was their look out. Yeovil then remained stationary and let the opponents score from the restart.
