Now I have to be honest I didn't hear the broadcast and so this could be a wind up..... One of my work colleagues, who shall remain nameless, was listening to Mr Mayo today and as part of his broadcast he offered his listeneners to opportunity to expose the worst recording in thier musical collection.

Goombay Dance Band....Rolf Harris....Sandy Shaw... and so they <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="images/icons/shocked.gif" /> continued until a caller from Gravesend unleashed upon a hiter to unsuspecting public.............CHEER , CHEER HERE COMES THE FLEET. <img border="0" title="" alt="[big Grin]" src="images/icons/grin.gif" />

Mr Mayo continued to conseed this as one, if not the worst record ever released.

Now I am an outspoken critic of this this tune but if Mr Mayo is unjust in his vilification of our teams anthem or if I am a victim of a Jeremey Beadlesk wind up I shall look to my fellow fleet fans for guidance as to a suitable course

I have been listening to Simon Mayo all week. (not by choice though!) Although i didn't hear the broadcast, it is the subject he has been dealing with so it is probably true!

Wether Simon Mayo had a pop at it or not it is still bloody awful and when we get a decent crowd it's downright embarrasing.

Isn't it about time we picked a new tune.....how about " We are the champions " by Queen?

what does a yiddo like Mayo know about decent footie or damn good footie tunes.

All that Chas & Dave in the Eighties, and Ossies trembling knees was definately the worst.

 

Cheer, Cheer is a masterpiece and should be respected as such. Don'l let anyone tell you otherwise !

"We are the Champions" is fine as an anthem when we've won a cup or secured the championship but will be out of place anytime we are not in the first couple of places in the league."Simply the Best" and other such songs are commonplace.

 

"Cheer,Cheer..." is unique to our club and should be sung with pride!

I will always remember leaving Upton Park in the late 70s with ' Cheer Cheer ' being played .

It was on the flip side of ' Bubbles ' I believe .

I also heard Cheer Cheer at West Ham back in the seventies.( I wonder if it was the same game)

Wasn't it described on 5 Live as truly dreadful.

 

When we played Cinderford Sport on 5 promised to play it if we got to the 3rd round.

Cheer Cheer Here Come the Fleet is a football classic. It has to rank in the top 3 all-time football songs with Bubbles and Back Home! Vote for our unique song in the poll! Up the Fleet!

In response to the original posting , a business associate who knows of my fanatical support of The Fleet , told me about how he was driving to a meeting last week when he heard the song 'Cheer Cheer' being offered to Simon Mayo as the worst ( soccer ? ) song ever released , and thought of me !!
