East Preston 0-2 Billericay

2 second half goals from Bertie Brayley saw us win through, East Preston missed a penalty late on. Thought we were ok today, comfortable for most of the match. EP had a good go at us and should take a lot of credit but once we had taken the lead after a golden goal winning 53 minutes we always looked in control.

Team

Gothard, McSweeney, Kerrigan, Trott, Sappleton, Dormer (Wareham), Forbes, Game (Hunter), Brayley (Stowe), Cousins, Heeroo. SNU Wayman(gk), Henty

Good result, unspectacular but who cares? Good to see Bertie taking over the scoring berth while Dannys out. We have two quality strikers with good backup for them.

Although weve played three 'easyish' teams in the cup, weve still done well to get this far, and are yet to concede a goal in the competition. Well done lads.

Who do we want in the next round then? Id like to miss the big guns of the conference, but would probably fancy our chances against most teams below that, esp if we finally get a home draw. Looking forward to finding out on Monday tho

Yep, who cares how we got the result. We were never really under any pressure from East Preston, despite our guests detirmination and desire to continue their "giant killing" run and for most of the game, we showed our class . The only thing I will mention is, in the frst half we were still not clinical in front of goal and didn't appear to be ruthless enough to dispatch teams like this easier. I'm sure that someone somewhere will say that I'm never satisfied but when I look at the team sheet, I see players that I believe are talented and got the "right stuff" to make Billericay a team to feared but a lesson has to be learned (and it has been dished out a couple of times all ready), that we win games by scoring goals and we score goals by being ruthless and clinical in front of goal (and yes, I'm sure someone would point out to me that we scored 2 goals yesterday but it could've been "oh so more").

I won't take anything away though from Bertie. Straight out of the Danny Hockton book of how to score, his goal in open play was as good as you will see and it is nice to feel that he is showing his class in front of goal. In fact, I thought it should've been him and not Pat Sapp that should've been given the MOM award. He looked dangerous and sharp.

Anyway, despite my opinions, well done to the lads and many thnks to East Preston. A friendly a club as you'll ever meet that reminded me of a certain small Essex club of the '70's that was as freindly. I'm sure there are those that will admit that they were certainly better on the field than we thought and would applaud their application and detirmination that they showed . They certainly didn't make things easy for us. Well done and good luck for the rest of the season.

Well, we re group for a laugue game this Tuesday and Saturday. Time for us to re comence our assult on the league title. COME ON YOU BLUES.

(PS - In answer to Justin's question as to where I was on Thursday, I was in Ipswich at a Whitesnake concert. Real music for real men...mate )

I would like to congratulate everyone who went to East Preston yesterday as we watched the Blues book there place in the final qualifying round of the FA Cup.

A lot of hard work went on behind the scenes at both clubs and I would like to congratulate East Preston on there warm welcome and making our stay very pleasant on what was there biggest game in there history.

A nice club and I wish them all the best for the rest of the season and future.

A nice home tie avoiding a Conference Club in the next round would be nice but if we are away then we will be ready with coach details as was shown by taking a full coach to East Preston with no home games between the 2nd and 3rd rounds.

Before then we have two important league games at home on Tuesday and then away at Salisbury on Saturday.

Congratulations to BTFC on their deserved win at EP yesterday. Thanks for the kind words regarding our club and another thanks for the great way in which you conducted yourselves as supporters on the day. It was a privaledge to have you guys down at the Lash.

We did have a penalty (don't know why) and Lee missed an open goal and there was one saved off the line in the dying minutes. Bertie also missed a first half sitter from 3 yards. You definitely deserved the spoils on the day and I wouldn't argue that, but we did have our chances and having read the messages, of which on the whole the comments were totally correct, please don't totally dismiss our contribution.

I had a great day, I was totally knackered afterwards when the anti climax feeling sunk in, but got thoroughly drunk along with the rest of the lads!!

Best of luck to BTFC for the next round and for the rest of the season, I'll be looking out for your results now and apart from Worthing, I hope you get the success you justifiably deserve.

It was a pleasure meeting everyone from your club.

Geoff

A no-win game won well I thought. East Preston battled away very gamely but in the end our superior technique, as superbly demonstrated with Bertie's first goal, was too much for them.

They had a couple of second half chances most noticeably a penalty which was as far wide of the mark as the referee's decision to award it but on balance I don't think anyone could argue with the result.

A home draw would be very welcome as the brownie point bank is running dangerously close to empty....

Hmmm, I was wondering about the "brownie point" credit situation...If we have another away cup tie looks like a weeks worth of washing up for jl

Would be amazing to get on telly. Theres 3 1st round matches live on telly which would also bring in a huge amount of money if we were lucky enough. Would also get on Match of the day if we got into first round like we did last time which was quality. We'll take it one step at a time though as whoever we get in 4q round will almost certainly be tough. Very exciting stuff though. I love the fa cup. Its so much better for clubs like us than the bigger clubs
