SMFC 2-1 ETFC (aet)

Discipline let us down, simple as that.

The officials will get stick, bound to as they were poor. But in my mind poor for both sides.

Hall was sent off for dissent. He was clearly angered that Southend were awarded a penalty with what appeared a dubious decision but he must have seen that enough times with his experience. How many times is that he's been in trouble for talking out of line this season? He's the captain and should really know better. I overhead a conversation that implied he hadn't sworn directly at the officials but had sworn about the player who went down for the penalty. It's still foul and abusive language, still a red card and it's still a 35 day suspension.

Paul Cambpell's two yellows looked mre like a 'run of the mill' sending off. I believe he's contesting the second yellow card but it looked like a foul from where I was standing.

Mind you, even with nine men we still took the game to Southend and it took a screamer with virtually the last kick of the game to win it. Adam Gant was back to his best and once again Rudi Hall was superb. Southend I didn't think looked all that. They weren't the kickers we've played before, yes they put themselves about a bit but we're far from innocent ourselves in that department. And if Asa Pamplin got up to the sort of antics he enjoys when playing against us we'd be screaming for blood!

Yes the GBMT wouldn't have been high on our list of priorities at the start of the season but our early exit will mean lots of free Saturdays later in the season which I don't think is a good thing.

In future, can the players concentrate on playing to their potential and rolling over teams like Southend rather than constantly gripe over official's decisions and lose their focus, please?

By the way, the afternoon didn't need their No. 8 launching the ball into the crowd on the final whistle and hitting a female supporter. Grow up mate.

Let's see a more determined performance, and a win on Tuesday.

As has been said many times before....'If all those that swore on the football pitch were sent off.It would be about two-a-side by the end of each match.'

I hate ref's who only seem to care about how THEY are treated, and frequently turn a blind eye to dangerous tackles that should be punished.

Fair point, but Graeme seemed to be challenging most decisions (bad or not, just get on with it) which doesn't endear players to the referee. And it's a trait he seems to have picked up in particular this season.

The officials WERE bad, and often made conflicting decisions but we should be used to that by now. If those at the game blame them for our defeat that would be shortsighted (much like some officials in this league....).

EVEN WITH 9 MEN TOWN WERE BETTER THEN THE MANOR ,BUT THE YOUNG PLAYERS JC GAVE A CHANCE TO PROVED THEY ARE NOT READY YET TO PLAY AT THIS LEVEL ,HOPE WE GET ALL OUR INJURED PLAYERS BACK BEFORE WE RETURN TO LEAGUE ACTION , THE GENERAl feeling from both camps was that the officals were just not upto it they hardly agreed on any decisions through out the game which made them look stupid.

Whilst I agree with ST that captains should lead by example, a look at the captains of many clubs shows that they're appointed captain precisely because they're generally allowed more leeway to question the referee. Might not be how it should be, I'm just stating how it is....

The ref in that Fulham/Arsenal game recently did all refs no favours by completely overturning the maxim that players shouldn't argue with the ref because they're never going to change their minds!

The ref at the Fulham game went towards his assistant before the players went anywhere near him (and Andy Cole`s surprised look was a big give away)so as usual people are twisting facts to suit their arguement, but thats football!

Sometimes there are 300 surprised looks at Brimsdown when the ref makes a bad call. Why doesn't that 'give the game away' to him, and make him change his decision then.???

I wouldn't want to see refs constantly changeing their minds; but they should get a review/report at the end of each game and learn from their mistakes.

It is bad enough having a player sent off; to have your captain sent off is worse; for foul and abusive language just compounds the situtaion and does no good for the name of the club.

As I understand it; if a supporter had used that language he/she would have been warned and if persisted asked to leave the ground;

how can we ask supporters to tone down their language when our captain leads by example?

Here, here. Players and coaches need to remember that ETFC is a supporters owned club with a lot of youngsters coming to games. They need to be setting and example. Save the passion for the football and not for insulting behaviour.
