Still nothing on the website

Why has our expulsion from the FA Cup not yet appeared on the main site? Has Webbo been told not to post anything? Who gives permission for postings?

It seems strange that the information appears everywhere except our own site. Are we trying to pretend it hasn't happened?

Has our secretary done the honourable thing yet?

Err... Webbo.

Just as a suggestion, why not put the F.A. Press Release on Rob's web-site, and add a note afterwrds to the effect that the Club will issue a statement shortly, once they have considered the matter further.

Oh, by the way. In the headline, please remember it's St Albans CITY F.C.

Hi Alban.

As has been shown on the various threads over the past couple of days, there are a number of unexplained issues relating to this matter, and I suspect that we will never know the answer to some of them.

Why are you so keen to rush to judge those that are believed to be involved? Where's the fire?

You promise?

Come on, mate. You're leaving yourself wide open to criticism with comments like that.

How many years have you been doing this website now? I know from my time doing the 'Saintsline' that the club give fk all info, and rarely honour their promises.

Don't lay your own life on the line for that lot. They don't even pay you.

Just seen it. I hope you don't mind me re-publishing it on here, webbo...

Quote:
Statement from Alasdair McMillin, Director of St Albans City Football Club.

"On behalf of the Club, we are very, very bitter about the steps that have been taken against St Albans City Football Club by the FA which we consider totally unfair and unjust given that we believe that we did comply with the FA’s Rules and Regulations for the FA Cup.

The matter is now in the hands of the Club’s Solicitors"

Alasdair McMillin is the club's solicitors, isn't he?

Jeez - why don't we just take it on the chin and move on??

Dear AFF

In response to your question can anyone other than the Secretary be responsible? It is surely his responsibility to be aware of all competition rules especially those governing player eligibility. If it is not his responsibility then whose is it?

I recall that prior to the FA hearing you highlighted on this site the rule in question. Sadly it seems others are not as well informed as your goodself.

Hi Alban.

Let's play pretend, shall we. Just as a work of fiction. Just as a f'rinstance. Solely as an hypothesis to demonstrate a point. Picture the scene:

The manager phones Eamsie on Friday afternoon. "Watcha Steve, I'm going to select Jamie Southon for tomorrow. I know he has missed 10 games through injury and hasn't trained but it was a shambles at the back last week and this should tighten it up. I can take him off [in the] second half if needs be".

"Whoa, Steve", says the chap who used to drive the red tractor, "Southon is ineligible as we haven't got written permission from the Urchins this week in order to send it to Soho Square before 12.00 on Friday."

"What?", says the manager. "Hold on there Eamsie. I'll look up the rules and have a word with Gibbo". "Have a word with who you like Steve", says Steve,"he's ineligible".

10 minutes later, the manager comes on the dog and bone for a second time. "Watcha Steve. It's O.K. You have forgotten that we lodged Jamie's contract at the F.A. ages ago and it clearly says that The Urchins are happy for him to play in F.A. Cup matches. We have complied with the rule. Gibbo's cleared it. It's all O.K. I have even phoned my old china Garry Hill to back it up and he's has re-affirmed that Horchurch are happy".

"I've forgotten nothing. This will end in tears", forecasts the chap who used to drive the red tractor.

How about that Alban? Don't rush to judge.

The above outline is a work of fiction. Any resemblance of any character to any person living or dead, is entirely co-incidental.

Oh by the way.

Alasdair McMillen is the Vice Chairman of the football club. He is also a senior partner at Sherrards, solicitors. He's also a very nice guy, although not as nice as his wife, my good friend Jo.

AFF

Thanks. Purely hypothetical as you say. I'll take on board your comments and wait to hear more. Sadly I don't think anymore will be said.

The rantings of the Chairman seem misplaced; the player was eligible but it seems the rules were not strictly adhered to. A fine would seem to have been the common sense response but then we know the FA have none so out we go. A substantial loss of income, potentially a lot more cash tossed away, and the club a laughing stock. Oh dear, oh dear!

I heard a rumour, and it's only a rumour mind, that the club has decided not to pursue a legal claim against the football authorities to seek to reverse the decision to disqualify, principally on the grounds of prohibitive legal costs. [Cue mdetaylor...]

It's probably best to wait for formal confirmation in the Braintree Town matchday programme.
