Anonymous Users...

CIFC - Y.A

Sorry if this seems pointless to some people, but I was just wondering what peoples opinions are of the Anonymous users that seem to be taking over our discussion board, not just the ones that come out with stupid comments, just generally overall.

I'm not complaining but it just seems to me a lot of people who have no real comments to say just come on here, type in any random username they want and they're in quite a lot of the time. I personally preferred it when you had to sign up.

I'd start a poll but after taking a quick look round it appears I'm not able to, so I guess this is the closest I'll get...

Do you think Anonymous users should be allowed on this board? Yes or No

Totally agree with you when you say you'd prefer it if users had to sign in. The opportunity for mishchief making is too easy when you can put in an unregistered user name and keep coming back whenever you want to, without anyone being able to tie all your threads together. Why A Non E Mouse hasn't registered that name is beyond me. He/she seems to post quite regularly so why not become legit?

The quality of postings on this board is now extremely high, after a period about a year ago when most of us refused to come on, the standard being so dreadful. This was brought about mostly by unregistered members whose sole intention was to cause trouble.

If there was a poll, I'd vote for registered users only.

I registered last year, but I think if you dont post for a while the site must kick you out cos I've had a nightmare trying to log in - doesnt recognise my password etc - easier just to do it like this - as long as there's no abuse / threatening behaviour (Which I guess is monitored anyway) then I dont see the problem, it allows healthy debate with the away fans and the odd rant from occasional users - Keeps it fresh!!

Let us undercover agents stay please!! If not, can the gremlins in the system be taken out and shot at dawn please?

i agree with Waterboy.

i dont put my views on regularly but still use the same name. I also agree that the standard of posts has improved dramatically over recent months so maybe that has encouraged non-posters to vent their views.

Even though opposition fans can log on and post abusive views, most are in jest and pretty harmless and most are quite funny in my view.

I'd just say keep up the good postings and hopefully more people wll register!!

There seems to be a general agreement that the postings over recent months have improved dramatically - I hope that my "comments" and other Anonymous postings have helped that improvement.

One morning I just decided to post - wasn't sure if I would be a regular or not - to be honest I wasn't that bothered.

However, if I had to register - I can safely say that I would not have bothered. I would have read the forum like many others. I would imagine that if there was a registration process there would be fewer posts but they would have been quality ones.

Old soppy Bo***ks from G&N has put a post on here and so far it has been ignored - suggest thats how it continues. It's good to get the odd quality one liners from the opposition - you'll only get this without registration. Downside is you'll get the odd crap ones like that from "Lambs fan" etc. - flipside is the good, tongue in cheek posts like those from the whippet, pigeon flying, clog hopping, ecky thump, northern monkey fans from Morecambe

Quite a simple answer Merv - I'm bloody lazy! (actually it's the complete opposite and I'm normally very busy so don't have a great deal of time)

I have posted regularly because I have quite enjoyed it and found it interesting - seems to be a cycle - like the old saying "S**t in, S**t out" if the posts are good, in turn other good posts continue.

Not sure about being "legit" or "illegit" - I certainly don't have a problem in signing up, although I do like a little bit of anonimity - seems when you say or do a little to much at this club your banned!

I would say NO to registration

[****!!****] bo££ocks to all you Canvey [****!!****]. You make me effin' sick. Your team is cr@p and my team is the best. Merv is a w@anker..

Etc., etc., etc.

[You see the danger of not registering, A Non E Mouse? Any idiot can log in and post using your name. This message was actually posted by Merv]

By registering my name, only I can use it. The board only allows one registration of Merv. If anyone (other than the moderators) want to impersonate me, they can't do it with that name. Any other spelling or spacing of the name gives the game away and proves it wasn't me.

Safeguarding of my name is, to me, the most important thing about registration but I take the arguments that the others have put up to heart. Some excellent points made. But if you do post regularly and don't want anyone impersonating you, you might want to think about registering.

I see your point quite clearly Merv.

I've been framed!!

I do recall someone saying something about recognising a persons "writing" style.

Although fairly new to the forum I trust that most of the people on here recognised that "the style used" wasn't mine. I'm sure there is also a techy thing about public IP addreses which can be recognised and would also differentiate between me and a mad Merv with menace.

I certainly wouldn't want my A Non E Mouse name used in vain

Anyway - I registered after posting my last response - so now I'm Legit

I am not very bright I emailed the help desk trying to sort out my password and recieved an email saying it was recieved and would be dealt with that was three weeks ago. I still have not got an answer.

I cannot rember my password and everytime I try to log in it will not let me and it will not let me re register.

Agree about the writing styles. Somebody I talk to on these forums registered another username as a bit of a laugh but I sussed them straight away because the writing styles were very similar, words and phrases etc that were used.

Surely the answer is to only allow registered posters to us the site to reply or start new threads.

I noticed under the 'new look forum', it was possible to reply to a thread and be posted as 'anonymous' because I wansn't 'technically' signed in on that forum.

I have no time for people who hide behind the title of 'Anonymous' !

Not entirely true - certain dial-up ip's are shared apparently. Not quite sure how it all works but I was warned to be very careful about banning by ip addy.
