I’m not going to write a mach report because im not very good at it, but apart from the ref, the terrible challenges by Stevenage, Boylan going off on a stretcher due to one of those terrible challenges and the 20 minutes in the first half where we didn’t play that well all was good today. There were moments were Canvey were back to their old self and the win was totally disserved and could have been more. The ref was truly diabolical and the fact that Stevenage number 15 stayed on the pitch let alone not getting a card after a truly awful challenge that saw Boylan leave the field on a stretcher just shows that the man in black was a cheat or incompetent, either way he shouldn’t have been in charge of this game. I can’t tell you how many times he got things wrong, it would just take too long, but take my word for it he was bad. The travelling yellow army started well but kind of lost our voice when it went to 2-1 but the as the confidence grew on the pitch it grew in the terrace to and we found our voice in fine form.

 

WELL DONE BOYS A WELL DISERVED 3 POINTS!

Lee Boylan has done his ankle ligaments according to BBC Essex last night. Could be out for anything from two weeks to three months!

Glad I'm not the only one who thought it wasn't that clever.

 

Didn't seem to be any enthusiasm or detail in the commentary at all. Can't imagine what the commentary would have been like if it was a dull 0-0. At points they were getting facts from the official website - now thats poor - could have been worse if they obtained game info. from the BBC websites

Official Site now states that Boylan's injury has been diagnosed as a fractured ankle. They'll put more news up when they get it.

That Davies bloke again on BBC Essex commentary, he considered that Boylan dived, [****!!****] never has liked Canvey!!

Have to admit his comments regarding Canvey have always been a touch on the negative side.

I think you are being a tad unfair on BBC Essex and Dick Davies in particular. When Boylan was upended, both commentators' immediate reaction was that he had made a meal of it, but both were very surprised when they saw that he had to be taken off. Dick then went off to find out what the problem was and reported, with relief, that it wasn't a broken leg (as feared) but more likely ligament injury. Perhaps from the commentary box (which wasn't in the middle of the stand, but towards one end, perhaps the end furthest from the action?) that was the view that they had.

 

To say that Dick has never liked Canvey just doesn't stand up. He reports very fairly on their games, win, lose or draw. In my many conversations with him he has always acknowledged what a good footballing side they are.

 

The coverage from BBC Essex is now so much better than it used to be. There was a long thread on this discussion board a few years ago lamenting the fact that Canvey were never mentioned on the station. Margaret Hyde (the boss at BBC Essex) got involved and from then on, led by Head of Sport Steve Scruton, the amount of coverage got higher and higher. Now we have live commentary on most of the away games and regular updates from Roger Buxton on the morning news programme.

 

The coverage amd match reports may not be perfect, but I think the criticism of the Beeb on this occasion is just a bit unfair.

Just thought that on the Stevenage commentary there wasn't a great deal of enthusiasm by the presenters especially when the lads were turning in such a good performance on the night.

 

Not really sure if this is the norm as I tend to be at the game or in a position where I can't listen to the commentary.

 

Didn't seem that professional on the night - they had got a little mixed up at times and it was made clear that some of the information had been taken from the official website - seems that they were a little rushed and hadn't done some of their homework. But as you say Merv the commentary position may not be ideal and thats a fair call.

 

Now we are in the Conference the amount of radio exposure we can obtain should be greater and due to the distances for away games now I suppose we should be greatful for live match commentary.
