An article in today's NLP talks about how Barnet are having trouble with their local council which is unbelievably similar to our own recent experiences. It seems the incompetent alliance that are doing their best to kill our club can't even claim originality in their underhand tactics.

Extracts from the article......

"The problems date from the club's announcement in 2001 of plans to develop land to the south of their current stadium. The plans came 9 months before council elections and the local Conservatives spied an opportunity to use the marginal Underhill ward to overturn the narrow majority of the ruling Liberal-Labour coalition."

"The Tories made inaccurate claims about the size and scope of the development, campaigning hard against the stadium. They snatched 2 of the 3 Labour seats and gained control of the council."

"The council proposed fair consultation over the scheme but instead sent private consultants to interview residents, mainly around the stadiunm site and many of them members of BRASS (Barnet Residents Against a Second Stadium)."

"There also appears to be a sense of triumphalism bordering on political spite. A taunting local councillor sang "we won the election" at a local fans forum."
