I think it would be interesting to pick our best X1 from the players available to us at the end of last season and then see who is still there mid season. X1 only, no if so-an-so is injured replace him with him, first X1 only.

My starting eleven in a 5-3-2 would be the same as Matt's except for Duffy for Parms.

 

In a 4-4-2 I would probably play Dobbo instead of Bennett but I don't think that there is much to choose between the two as both are excellent defensive midfielders. Again I would play Duffy instead of Parms but I do think Parms deserves more of a chance.

If either is on the bench and we want to defend/increase our score we could change from one formation to the other.

 

I think it's called tactics or something like that.

I think Matts got the team spot on! Thats what I would play but Id like to see Berquez and Brayley rotated with Gregory

I also would like to see more of Berquez...but not in Midfield! I would like to see more of Benno...but not in defence and I would like to see more of Potter...but not on the bench!!!

Would agree with that lot, without doubt Potter if fit and in form to start ALWAYS. Most definately got to rotate Greggory and Berquez, Boylan and Berquez look a formidable force up front where-as it often looks so obvious when Gregors is on, big ball up and all that, is an easier option for defences to cope with. On last seasons form - Bertie on as sub in the closing stages unless he has sorted his thinking head out come next term!! Always like to start with Parms, he will always give 110% does not pull out and lets his precence known!!

I think people are avoiding the main question, it does not matter what formation pick your best X1 to start the game.

We can't pick a Starting XI because we have so many players that play in the same position and are of the same quality.

 

If you're doing 5-3-2 it's pretty hard to pick the two who partner Minton in the middle from Benno, Proths, Parms, Dobbo and dare I say it Dave Gregory.

 

Then again with everyone fit and on form it's hard to pick the three defenders from Cowan, Chenery, Ward, Benno, Ross Johnson & Crow. Same problem up front, who partners Boylan? Neil Gregory? Berquez? or Brayley?

 

Right-wing is a safe bet to be JK, with his understudy Michael Lee close behind him. On the left will either be Duffy or Forbes. Taking into account that we don't actually sign anyone this pre-season.

 

But I'll stick with my original picks...That's my best XI

Well that was the point in starting this thread, it`s only when you are forced to pick 11 players that you realise that one of your favourite players may not get into the team.

Picking your favourite player must have something to do with the team shape and how effective you see them being inside that shape

 

Most of us would also understand that we have a particular player we would always pick despite arguments from the majority of other fans and the manager is no different

 

For me as an engineer "if it works don!t fix it" unfortunately for the past three seasons the manner in which we play "aint gone the final yard" For the past three seasons we have lost the title to teams that play two banks of four and two up front

They score less , concede less but now play Conference football

Going back to this thread and trying hard not to sound like I'm having a dig... Who will play more now? Duffy or Gooden?

 

We all know that Chris Duffy ranks high on Jeff's favourites list. But with a solid ex-pro in the form of Gooden, will Jeff now choose on ability rather than favouritism?

 

If Gooden is what we've come to expect of him, he should be keeping Duffy out the side week in, week out. Is it now time for Jeff's loyalty to take a step down and see it from the fans perspective?!

I know that there have been offers from several clubs in the past to take him away from park lane so he must be doing something right.

Might be interesting Matt to take out of selection at the start of the season those players known for having spells where they go out of games

Take out those players you believe choose when to give it 100% as opposed to being naturally 100% players

Then let the rest have a go at getting the season off to a flyer

Certain players choose when to "put on style" and when to perform others have spells in games where they "hide"

Just a thought that maybe putting a team out of 100% grafters could see us through the early season when all the teams are attempting to find form
