On other postings we have all had our say on management and selection

so who can now pick a team to win IN STYLE against B.Stortford

For obvious reasons I decline, Not feint heart simply prudence

If I showed the team I would select it would be in 4-4-2 formation with two natural CBs and two natural FBs four mid-field players capable of 90 minutes of exhausting receive, pass and move all able to add their defensive duties

plus two specialist strikers

Decision time? the best selections have wandered from magic to tragic and perhaps its time to re-think

Once again I find myself agreeing with pabird (does this mean we're engaged?). I too prefer to see four at the back. I appreciate that we won on Saturday with only 3 at the back, but Jeff admitted on BBC Essex after the game that our main problem this season has been the leaked goals. I don't think we have the correct balance of players to make it only 3 at the back and so, in view of this, I would prefer to put in the extra man. Of course, it's not a question of how many, but who. The balance of styles and skills has to be right.

This leads on to the other problem of allowing a squad to gel together. It looks like we are going to sign another player. Surely not a striker (Boylan and Gregory looked superb on Saturday and were well supported by JK and, until he went off, Duffy) so will the new signing be a defender or a midfielder? Either way it will mean another re-shuffle and another settling in period.

But enough of me being negative. I think that, having shaken off the Top Field curse, our luck has turned. Perhaps the ball will now start to bounce for us and we will come back from BS with AT LEAST three points, i.e. three points for a win and bonus points for fans in a superb, 'sexy' performance.

If the game is on, that is. I looked outside just now and think it might rain tonight!!!

i cant see the game going ahead unless its bone dry tomorrow with a 40 mph breeze all day, and the stortford pitch is made of gravel on 6 inch stilts.. but if we are lucky then i go for the following

potter

chenners johnson cowan wardy (mix em around as THEY wish)

J.K benno duffers

minton

boylan greggors

i would definetly use parms and prothers at some stage even as early as half time getting the midfield to run themslves to death in the first 45.

brayley berquez either or for the last 20 up front

knight or forbsy if jeff gets bored what ever..

if we are getting out done in midfield lose johson for parms early doors

and go 3.5.2 if we go 4 nill down again just play 3 3 4 and at least entertain the travelling yellow army

Not sure who is fit or available:

Harrison

Ward

Chenery, Cowan

Kennedy, Bennett, Duffy

Minton, Parmenter

Boylan, N Gregory

Not the 4-4-2 selection but I reckon Kennedy and Duffy could play a little deeper, especially to start with and are key to the side. When one side of the field is attacking then the other could hold back and create the 4 at the back when required. It can alternate between a 5-3-2, 3-5-2 and 4-4-2. After looking at clean sheets, not many, we need to pay more attention to stop leaking goals. How many times has the other team run down the other end to score while we were creating all the pressure and undo all the hard work.

Subs would be Protheroe, (sorry Matt) Knight, Potter, Brennan and another

Understand you thoughts Phil but in a well disciplined four at the back the full back pushes up behind the attacking wider mid-field players (KJ & Duffers) with the remaining back four players moving across to cover

Ie an option to attack but recovery always to a back four

The other issue must be that whether back three or four there must be at least one natural covering player

We have been caught out time and again by having three and sometimes four natural center halves in the defense all wishing to attack the ball without thought of backline cover
