Management Shake-up

No this message is nothing drastic but I was just thinking something...

A number of fans I know have been questioning Jeff's ability to manage the team at this level. So how about a promotion for him? Say as Director of Football and we could employ a 'proper' manager. I only suggest this as I noticed yesterday that Tommy Taylor has been sacked by Darlington. Does he still live on the island? If Jeff moved upstairs we could employ Tommy, a manger with plenty of football league experience is something we need now to take us that step further and employing Tommy might just be the answer!

Just a suggestion but a suitable one at that...

Ooh I don't know about that, pabird might put their son at leftback every game and having family play for the same team might cloud judgement on other players' abilities. No offence to pabird or their son of course, I'm sure they've got plenty of coaching experience!

As for the big day next week, I can't wait!! It's gonna be great. A little outing for Mrs. Pumpkin and all the little Pumpkin seedlings I think... Now what shall we dress up as this year children..?

When you look at what the club has achieved in the last 10 years, then there should be no thoughts on changing things. Apart from one blip on the way, the club has progressed through the ranks and is now one of best known non-league clubs. Every year, on the whole, has just got better. It was only last year that we won the Trophy final and appeared and won on Match of the Day live beating Northampton. For a non- league club, “all” there is to do now is get into the conference and then look at Nationwide league football. As a probable result of problems behind the scenes at the end of the last season, then we may have gone up. I just hope we can find the consistency and belief from last season and carry on our winning ways. My only criticism is that I still believe that a couple of players are playing out of position from last season and we still need two players to come and go.

I still believe that Jeff can take us to further glories in the coming years and as long as he and others are enjoying it, then that’s fine by me.

No need for a Manager Shake up just to Shake up a few of the players to get some passion for the club and not trying to grab the money. (This does not apply to all of them just a few)...

I also agree that we are missing a hoding Midfielder but also wondering if Chris Perkins is considered at this position as it states that he can play at the back or in Midfield.....

Just a thought.

Perky can play in midfield if required, and a College buddy of mine who remembers him when he played for Sarfend reckons that although he was young, he looked quite tasty.

Pumpkin you can!not pick a left back in three at the back likewise you will always leak goals if the three at the back are all "go for the ball" natural centre halves

Three at the back calls for at least one player to be a natural cover type who reads the game

A most difficult system that will produce results against the average (our level) but if minus the covering thinker will leak goals against better coaches or players

I noted the four at the back report comment Matthew but worry when we consider that against Hitchin we played well

Individuals played well but when you seriously consider the low average skill levels of Hitchin we at times allowed them to think they can play

Lovely to see Duffers back and when fitness levels allowed being a strong physical threat from mid-field

One concern was that minus mid-field cover at least one of the back three showed a serious flaw when confronted one on one (on the floor) whilst he is class in the air (both boxes) he requires protection from wide players prepared to attack him (he is a natural center half who struggles when found in the full back position)

Probably Canv is right in feeling one more mid-fielder would do the trick but for me encouragement to release early in simple moves from the back via mid-field to the attackers and leaving the tricks department until we are in the opposition final third may also work

We have the talent and like many top sides in periods of change only struggle for the mix

PS Pumpkin I attempt to avoid all connections that would be unfair and therefore have always left selection to the experts

The player you refer to was selected for first and second division squad work at left back by Barry Fry, Right back by Danny Greaves and center mid-field by Peter Taylor and Theo Foley

The point being that an educated pro either does a one position job or is known in the game as "a player" and they have the ability to play where chosen

More to the point football is a game of opinion and in this team Jeff is the opinion that counts

ALL THE EX-PRO PLAYERS HAVE THE ABILITY BUT WE ARE STRUGGLING WITH THE MIX

The team slelction for me would hinge on key individuals across the team that have the basic appetite plus the ability to receive, pass and move plus other specialist that "do a job"

PSs The boy has far more patience than me, I would be gone by now. He simply is very attached to the club
