Midweek Yoof playing tonight

Quite right AFF. An impressive turn out indeed. It was obviously a big night for them, a trip to the home of "The Mighty Saints". A full compliment of backroom staff attended and the Chairman was pleased enough to buy his whole team, players and officials, a drink or two in the bar after the game. Was also overheard organising a stop on the way back to Northamptonshire for fish & chips / McDonalds despite the excellent aray of sandwiches provided on the evening.

On the night they thoroughly deserved their win, we never really looked like scoring and gave the ball away too cheaply. The team has not helped by silly rules whereby we have players who can play U18 football on Sundays ,Herts FA date is those born after 1st August are eligible, but the FA who run the Allied Counties League and the FA Cup have a date of 1st September. Through this we have lost the services of some very good players.

It also worries me that players of this age within the "Youth" set up are now commiting themeselves to other local clubs in an attempt to secure their progress into adult football. It sadens me to think that St Albans City are now seen as a club where this is no longer possible and that having just lost a decent crop of young talent, the best to come through the "Youth" team for some considerable time, the club seems to have buried its head in the sand over this matter.

These comments not meant to be negative but it is an opportunity to express a concern that is shared by many young players, parents and managers of "Youth" teams in St Albans. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

A very sad state of affairs TC and both shortsighted and misguided. To more positive things, what's this lad Jaravaza like? In the 'Bullet' mould?
