Once again Sawbo thwart The Town.

First half we were poor and Sawbo could have been out of sight with a number of excellent chances. Town's only real chance of the first half came from a Dean Nyman header, six yards out with no-one anywhere near him, which he managed to put off for a throw-in. To be fair to Deano a rare poor header this season.

Second half was mostly Town's but it seemed to me we looked rushed in front of goal, which is strange as confidence should be high after current results. Could have had a penalty with what looked like a handball but the referee had blown for a foul the other way first.

The Referee (as he's bound to be mentioned!) in my opinion had a reasonable first half but was far too whistle happy in the second making some strange decisions in favour of both sides.

Plus points? We didn't lose, we kept another clean sheet (what a find Paul Campbell has been) and the return of John Ridout (if only for his experience, let alone his talent).

Minuses? Our failure to beat Sawbo again. What is it about them? And the disappointing display in front of goal.

Crowd: 243

M.O.M.: In my opinion, Kevin Riley.

Scoreline's report sums the match up. We were very poor in the first half, completely outfought by Sawbo who should have been 1 or 2 goals to the good - but their gobby number 10 kept missing.

Much improved performance in the second half - Steve Baldwin replaced by John Ridout and our back 4 looked more secure with Graham Hall and Paul Campbell in the middle.

Sawbo tired and we matched their physical style of play in the 2nd half. To be fair we only created two good chances in the second half - a good pass that set Kevin Riley racing into the edge of the area - his short diagonal pass just being smothered by the Sawbo keeper before Lee Smith got there. Also an exellent turn and shot by Lee Smith again brought a good save from the Sawbo keeper.

Sawbo never change - their football is direct and they fight well for each other. Always a difficult team for us to beat.

What is annoying is that I am sure they are not so "up for it" against many other of the ESL teams - but there you go. The draw was a fair result albeit in a poor quality match.

Sawbo were (as usual) well organised,fit,loud....but ultimatly limited). We really need to start turning over teams like Sawbo in the ESL. We don't seem to have trouble with those sort of teams in FA competitions.

Saying that, the conditions didn't really allow for one touch football. The pitch was very firm and added to the light rain, produced as very fast bouncy playing surface.Perfect conditions for teams who like to shut down space.

Also,we should be playing three up front. Pamplin in the middle, with Smith and Nyman either side. With kitenge coming on second half.

Finally, I've never seen a team be so rowdy and make so much noise celebrating a 0-0 draw,as the Sawbo platers were last night.

It does not matter who we Towners play, they always raise their game, if they just draw with us then they have won the world cup. I still don't understand it, but I've just got used to it.

Certainly strange but it can only be flattering.

Off-topic, SL, but I must say I love your 'emoticon' orgy thing below your posts! A real love-in and no mistake. Lovely

It's beacause you are the best supported club that teams raise their games against you. As for the gobby number 10 then he was just biting back on some very gobby comments aimed at him. If you have a big crowd giving you a bit of stick then to take anything away is a good result. To be honest with clear cut chances I reckon Sawbo shaded it on their first half performance,It could have been a different game if either team scored.

By the way Sawbo are actually a good team when they click. Solid at the back with a bit of bite and flair when needed. They just need to be able to beat the lesser teams. As you know it is easy to raise your game for the big games.
