So ETFC will have had to progress through three rounds of the F.A Vase BEFORE Concord Rangers enter the competition.

What's all that about.???

Isn't it so that ETFC will have won loads of prize money before Concord have a chance to get knocked out?

Junior, don't worry about Island Boy. When he says Townies, we all know he means Towners, but he's a bit too thick to get it right. It's like if we called him Island Boy, everyone would know we really meant Stupid Idiot.

While you were all busy slagging each other off you appeared to miss an interesting point that Badger made as part of his post above.

That was the question of prize money in all the rounds.

In the old days, exemption was a prestigious advantage to the club/s involved but these days, as in the case of The Islanders, it just means the loss of some important dosh by not being in the earlier rounds.

Perhaps PBT can answer if it's possible under FA rules for a club to waive its exemptions so that it can get a good crack at the life saving pots of gold from the beginning of the competition

Why don't you pull your bobble hat down over your eyes, so you can see the real world nob cheese, don't hear you moaning about the others that are exempt, told u before matey, just because your the townies anorak brigade, your not entitled to everything, we get special treatment cos were the present ESL CHAMPIONS.

Not true actually. You got special treatment because of how far you got in the competition last season. Because of that Ilford got the special treatment that would have been reserved for the ESL champions. If they had got as far as you as well then Sawbo would have got the exemption but ETFC wouldn't because it is only for one of the top three in each league.

Anyway, it's swings and roundabouts -- any club getting an exemption is more likely to come up against a good side in their first match and get knocked out without making anything other than gate money and possibly bar takings. Starting at the earliest opportunity gives a club a better chance to get hold of some of the prize fund but also means they might get knocked out before the prize money increases.

As for your attitude, I'd be an angry git if I lived in Canvey. The nearest decent pubs are in Benfleet.

Saw Island Boy's post, have a job lot of banjo's if you townies are interested. Also 50 sets of clippers to keep you hair nit free, plus i'll throw in a couple of pigs so you can put them in that pen you call a pitch.

ps: did you get the idea of corrigated fencing from clapton? i heard they have it in their showers.

Unfortunately, not. Generally, the exemptions are confirmed in the FA's competitions directory which also carries the early round draws and is sent to clubs during pre-season. You can never be 100% sure whether you are exempt or not until the draw comes out and then its too late. The idea of the top three being exempt was only introduced last season and certainly caught me on the hop as I thought we had been missed out of the draw until I saw our name in the list of exemptions!

A point to bear in mind in all of this, though. You only get the prize money in the qualifying rounds if you actually win your matches and this, of course, is down to the luck of the draw as much as anything else. There are plenty of good sides that come in at the first qualifying round stage.

Good point PBT. But then you also have a better chance of meeting the weaker sides in the earlier rounds to enable you to win and collect the dosh.

It's not my choice on behalf of the Boro but if it was I might well go for it and take the chance of earning the few hundred quid early on.

Nothing to lose and all that stuff.

Badger

The references to banjo playing comes out of the excellent film Deliverance starring Burt Reynolds. It is set in some cut off part of US. It is associated with inbreds etc. In the film a young boy is seen playing the banjo. Hence the association.

I understand that Ray Winstone is being tipped to make a remake set in Canvey Island.

Bearing in mind Enfield is in London (You might know it Island Boy its that small metropolis a few mile West of you) and Canvey Island is a Island connected to the mainland by two roads and without a railway station it is clear what is more cut off. In addition my understanding is that Canvey is sinking into the Thames. I know its been flooded once or twice. In Deliverance the area was being flooded. The parallels with Canvey seem obvious.
