Crap! Absolute crap. I would write more but the effects of an alcohol fueled night are preventing me and I may well have calmed down by the morning!!!

Sorry - can't write a review, wouldn't be very good at it - leave it to those that can.

"crap" - I felt we deserved something from this game - but you just felt it wasn't going to happen. Woking, goal aside, were no better than us I felt. As someone mentioned on a previous post, they are very quick up front - but that was really all.

Their goal was very well taken after, I believe, Buzz made a committed tackle and the guy skipped it, ran on and made a perfect cross to an unmarked player.

We had a few half chances, where the ball just didn't fall for us - really the main chance I remember was when Duffy blasted over the bar in the second half - you have to put those away in the conference or you do end up with nothing.

More concerned about the service from midfield giving more opportunity to our forwards.

I know we have a few injuries, but we don't seem to be able to have a consistent squad.

Would like to see Keeling start a full match - I would leave Duffers out - he only made 3 runs in the first half against Crawley.

Ollie had a good game and was prepared to run at them - trouble was everything seemed to be channeling through him and I think he tired towards the end.

Quite impressed with Ben Sedgemore - however, is it me, or does he seem to go very quiet in the second half of most games? you just don't seem to notice him in the second half of a game.

5 or 10 minutes before being subbed you could see Buzz head drop. Generally, I don't think we have done to bad defensively this season - an area where we normally struggle. We seem to be struggling in the areas where we used to do so well - midfield, providing numerous scoring opportunities.

Heard that Woking were playing 5 in midfield at their previous games and they seemed to be doing the same yesterday. We needed someone who was going to dig deep, roll up sleeves and work. I'd say Dobbo - but to be honest I think with the standard of refereeing he'd only be on the pitch for 20 minutes.

We certainly need to pick up some points over the next month - and I think we are capable of doing so against clubs like Leigh, Northwich, Morecombe, FGR and York.

The difference between the teams was our strikers, when Woking had the ball upfront they looked a threat, we never did. We have to make the few chances we get at this level count or we will struggle.

Wardy`s red card was amazing, if that is not overturned there is no justice.

Probably a bit of a harsh assessment what I said last night but I was still bitterly dissapointed from yesterday afternoon.

Definitely our worst performance of the season but yes we could have got something out of it. I thought Woking were very ordinary but credit to them. They took their chance when it came and defended well after that.

Ref was awful. It was obvious that the Woking player ran into Wardy to get him sent off. It was a yellow card and the very most.

Still quite pissed off. We lost to an ordinary side and we've played much better teams this season such as Scarborough, Carlisle, Gravsend and have got points.

Woking have a decent ground and the service in the snooker bar was superb. Staff in there were really friendly. Bacon baguette was superb.

So not all bad really. Let's see what next week brings!!

Well I couldn't make the game, looking at the messages on the Woking Forum, it reads that they consider Canvey to be the poorest team they have played this term.

I listened to the commentary on BBC Essex and you could tell by their voices that the game was a bore. I must admit, that I believe we have been witnessing a gradual decline in the quality of our play in recent games. Boylan hasnt been getting any balls worthy of converting, I do believe that some players need to be reviewed and others looked at from a starting point of view. We are all capable of wanting to be the team manager but could we really do the job? a lot must go on behind closed doors that we do not witness and this will decide who will play or not. Its just that myself and a lot of others do notice when something isnt working in the team but it seems to be ages before the coaching staff seem to take note of these errors and finally do something about it!!

Cangull, you are correct - I couldn't appreciate what goes on behind the scenes as a manager - couldn't and wouldn't want to. We as supporters are never aware of minor injuries etc. that effect who may or may not play on the day.

Weird thing is I had flashbacks to Bishops Stortford away last year when the fans could see it wasn't working - not that we were a bad side - but it just wasn't working. After that game things changed and the rest they say is history.

I wouldn't say it was a boring game - we just seemed to go about things in the same manner as previous games when we have clawed back points. Woking weren't that good. We seemed to make the same basic mistakes that you probably have witnessed at the lane - mistakes you cringe at, but the players do battle till the end which is very encouraging.

I just don't think we have the right, settled squad yet - I'll leave a supporters proposed line up to others. With injury the squad seems not to have settled. Wardy will now be on a ban, so another change in the back four. Although I don't think we have done to bad at the back looking at the number of goals we have conceded. Our biggest defeat is 1-0. We just don't seem to have got it right between midfield and the lads up front.

As for Woking thinking we are poor - cr@p! I've said in my previous post "Canvey are cr@p" - every team we have played has said we are the worst team in conference history etc. Stupid thing is all the teams we played were just as unimpressive - Scarborough, Exeter and even Woking. I've missed a couple of home games - but Crawley were the ones I felt played better than I expected.

We have a string of very important games coming along with Morecambe, FGR, Northwich, Leigh and York - we need to gain maximum points whilst settling the squad IMHO.

Yellow EFM - your comments about the service and friendliness of staff in the club etc. didn't suprise me.

Watching their mascot KC the cat walking round the ground and throwing sweets to the kids in the crowd showed how much I think they value their future supporters. Just glad the cat didn't start licking his [****!!****] in the centre circle <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

A lot of clubs talk about "links" with the community, but Woking do seem to be having a good go. They even had an offer to visit Bruge with the supporters club in the programme. They seem to value their fans young and old - well done Woking.

Now put a roof over the bloody away side <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

It was my first away game of the season and while we lost I didnt think we disgraced ourselves. We all knew it wasnt going to be easy in this League and we are finding that out now.

What amazed me yesterday was why did we took Boylan off? Okay he didnt have a good game yesterday but like most good goalscorers he can do nothing for 89 minutes and have one chance and score. Like a previous poster I would like to see Keeling given a complete game.

I think we are going to have to look to Gravesend's example they have had to virtually rebuild their side that won the Ryman to be able to compete in the conference. There are quite a few players at Canvey who are not up to Conference standard and who will have to be replaced.

What really rounded yesterday off was getting back to Waterloo and popping into the bar there and seeing England somehow lose to the West Indies! Thank goodness the beer numbed the pain from yesterdays sporting results!!!

From a Woking point of view:

The red card was justified. I thought it was given for violent conduct rather than denying a goalscoring opportunity, as your defender definitely swung a horizontal arm at Amos. It was a stupid thing to do: quick as Amos is, he wouldn't have gotten near that through-ball. Anyway, the defender should have been sent off 5 minutes earlier for hauling down Richards when he was clean through, but didn't even get a yellow. The ref was a bit lenient with your players, I thought - two or three nasty challenges which deserved cautions didn't get them, otherwise he was fairly decent. We've certainly had much worse this season.

It was a poor performace from us. We looked very lethargic at times, I'm not sure why. We gave the ball away too much and resorted to the quintuple midfield bypass operation on too many occasions. It was lucky for us that you had a poor game too, otherwise you'd have gone away with at least a point. Boylan wasn't as threatening as I thought he would be, but our back four did have good games. You're certainly not the worst team in Conference history though, anyone who tells you that hasn't watched enough Conference football.

I'm sorry about the side terrace - the club have taken the ridiculous step of introducing segregation for all home games this season. When you see 4 Leigh fans occupying 2/3rds of that terrace, it just highlights how ridiculous the segregation issue is. Plans are afoot to redevelop the ground (a new main stand for one) and a roof for that terrace is definitely on the list of things which need doing.

I can see how you would view the sending off the way you have but i can`t agree, at most it was obstruction, your player knew he wouldn`t get the ball and took the easy option. The player involved has played week in week out for 9 seasons for us and that i believe was his first red card, i doubt if he picks up 5 yellow cards in a season he`s just not that sort of player. Maybe the previous incident was still in the refs mind and influenced him.

No need to apologize about the segregation, i`m afraid we have the same at Park Lane and believe me our ground is not the best neither the home or away ends have roofs.

on the radio they said the sending off was a terrible decision, and wardy defiantly isn't that sort of player.

as far as the segregation issue goes I think allot of clubs don't use their common sense (canvey included) and just segregate every game, I think it makes some situations worse by creating a them and us mentality that causes allot of problems. fair enough it has to be done for some games but for a vast majority is causes more problems than its worth

i didn't think it was a straight red although apparently your player used the clothesline move on amos (i was at the wrong angle and couldn't see that) so to me it looked like obstruction at the worst.

the guy that pulled rico down 5 mins before should have seen red but got nothing.

segeregation is a bone of contention amongst our supporters, sometimes its required but this new policy for every game seems premature, particularly as the away terrace has no cover or access disabled fans.

leigh rmi looked a lot worse than you, in fact you passed the ball on the deck more than we did so i doubt you'll be anywhere near the worst we see this year

cheer up lads.. as has been said.. our worst defeats are by a single goal.. the line is fine at this level and we'll get a on a run at some stage .. give the players some time to get used to the pace in this league...

and for the truly depressed.. we were 5 points off the drop zone.. we still are.. forest green look doomed, so do northwhich if they get a 10 point penalty for going into administration.. that means if we dont get a result against Morecombe (who despite their cr.p start were play off last season and excellent away from home i believe) or stevenage (great memories of that ground but thats gonna be a v. tough game) then our match against leigh could have the makings of an early 6 pointer!! you have to love football, always something to look forward to.. ;-)

You're far from the worst tema ever in the Conference. You're not even the worst team we played last week !! Tamworth win that accolade fairly easily.

And as for the red card, have a look at this picture

http://thecardinalsonline-season04.fotopic.net/p7844174.html

and the next one. In no way is it conclusive, but your defender is clearly 'eyeing up' Amos, and in the second the arm is right across his neck and chest. Perosnally, I don't think it was violent but a panic reaction - Amos is VERY quick and was fresh.

Good luck for the rest of the season and see you in December.

Good pictures but as you say they are not conclusive, in real time i didn`t think it was a sending off and i still don`t. If the video shows any use of an elbow to the face then fair enough it was the right decision, we are going to appeal so we will just have to wait and see.

Thank goodness for video replays. Wardy's good name is secure.

Just hope something is done about that ref his decision to send off Wardy could have cost us a point.

I really hope the conference look at improving theses refs. We are in a far higher standard league now but the standard of refs hasnt improved.
