Anyone know why it was cancelled?

I was chatting to Claire and Vickie Baxter on Tuesday. A 'block booking' of 15 or so tickets pulled out 10 days beforehand and they had to cancel as the thing would have lost money.

 

[No. I don't know any more details than that.]

 

Strictly between ourselves and not for public consumption, they were more than a little upset at the lack of support they received from Saintsfans in general and a small vocal minority in particular. Funds raised were to be put towards a huge screen TV thing for the clubhouse. They still quite like me, however, I'm pleased to say.

Limiting the evening to ladies only (obviously) was always going to restict numbers.

 

I'm sure they could have made more effort in selling tickets. I made several suggestions how this could be done given the restrictions on advertising, but my advice was not followed. I'm sure you, AFF, have probably tried to help out.

 

As for large screens, can we have one in the Mermaid?

I have little doubt that I am one of the 'small vocal minority' in question.

 

As it happened, Claire had my full support, and we spoke of the Ladies Night on many an occasion.

 

I told her that I felt the idea was ill-conceived, explaining my reasons, and she chose to ignore my advice. My reasons why I felt this Ladies Night would be a failure have been documented in detail on this very board over the past couple of months.

 

Of course, Claire refused to believe that she, Helen and Ms Baxter are probably the only three females in St Albans who still find the thought of a semi-erect man, with an elastic band round his dick, to be a turn-on. The rest have all moved comfortably into the 21st Century.

 

Unfortunately, it appears my (what turned out to be) very sound advice was misconstrued as taking the piss.

 

Now, of course, I am taking the piss.
