Much as I like Oasis, I prefer Blur, who were infinitely better. You can't compare the two when it comes to sheer musicianship and inspiration.

 

Blur won the singles battle, then Oasis blew Blur out of the water with the Morning Glory album a few weeks later. Oasis were massive throughout 96, peaking at the Knebworth appearances.

 

But Blur were just biding their time, and came back in '97 with the self-titled Blur album which was absolutely superb.

 

And Parklife is still better than Definitely Maybe too!

I reckon The Charlatans are better than both of them.

 

Never seen Oasis live and only saw Blur at Reading that year we went and as you know I was very disappointed with them. Good job that band on the following day in the smaller tent made up for it.

Problem is, you saw Blur on the back of their '13' album which, although it is excellent, it needs about 47 listens before you can appreciate it fully!

 

Playing the majority of that to a bunch of festival-goers, most of whom had probably never heard the album, they were always destined to leave people a bit baffled.

 

Oasis live are brilliant. Knebworth was probably my favourite gig ever. Saw them at Wembley Arena too, which was 'intimate' in comparison!!

 

The Charlatans are an excellent band - the band I've seen live more times than anyone else. Eight times now, I think. Maybe a little excessive, as I've always thought people who follow their fave bands around the country, watching them 50-odd times, to be a little sad! <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

 

The Charlatans cannot be compared to Blur however, who are simply in a different league musically.
