The Town Hall Meeting

Recommended Posts

Thought the meeting was very positive, Martin Deaner did an excellent presentation.

Unfortunately we're dealing with the likes of Cllr. Tony Haynes (no adequate printable comment will suffice here) and Tess Environmentalist (rambling, little relevant comment, but the best presentation according to Haynes), Mr. Stoke Road Resident (43 years, likes a nice funeral) and a bunch of upset allotment holders (could be 10 or 600, it wasn't clear, but their shop's busy).

Those in opposition didn't have any convincing reasons why this project shouldn't go ahead in my opinion, but then I'm biased!

Any other thoughts from those there??

We agree Martin Deaner put over a very professional presentation, his plans are most impressive definately on par with Rushden & Diamonds. Who is to say Slough will not attract bigger crowds than the Diamonds, after all Irthlingborough Diamonds were attracting gates of only 100 to 150 before the link up with Rushden and the building of the new stadium. Also when you compare the much larger population of Slough to that of Rushdens it is quite feasable to assume much larger crowds for Slough in the future.

Back to the meeting we thought one of the Councillor's was so biased it was untrue. I dont think he realises for one minute that he represents many Slough supporters in his area. Do he really think he will get their votes at the next election after such an embarrissing performance, at one stage he completely lost his cool with Chair (Councillor Sandhu) who we thought was very fair throughout the meeting. The Slough supporters in the public gallery were very well behaved as usual which one of the councillors just did not need last night, imagine his remarks if they had been rowdy and noisy as he was desperate in the end for ammunition.

We are sure the majority of people in Slough will want this project to go ahead because it is not just a football club it is for the whole community.

We travel past Rushden & Diamonds ever Sunday, the car park is always full with people attending the health club, fitness gym, having a meal etc etc, This one day could be Slough Town.

Agree with all of the above. A fair hearing by all but one of the councillors. That apart a credit to all the local councillors for their respect for all parties---it shows that local government does listen.

Also just to add I thought the best speech at the meeting was by Neil Overman on behalf of the STSA. He had no preparation notes or written speech as all the others talking had and his comments and answers came straight from the heart.

He only knew he was speaking for the club at the very last minute
