Margate Win but

And someone ought to enlighten Thurrock's management that a load of big gorillas playing head tennis will never be a match for a team like ours who play quicksilver passing football of superlative skill (when they are not lofting the ball skywards).

I noticed also that the refereeing was of the usual high standard we have come to expect in this league. Even given that, we won convincingly.

Onwards and upwards, blue boys. My, how I love this team.

I'm getting seriously worried because from posts on the game, i must have been at different game tonight;or i left my rose tinted specs behind.

Agree too many of Thurrocks players were overweight;but did not think they were particularly dirty side.

Oddly, whilst their forwards were quite tall(or our defenders small maybe),i thought their defenders were quite small .

I thought both teams concentrated on hoof and run football, especially when we were clearing ball from defence-that is a fact and not a criticism ,since i think most of us were just pleased to see the ball cleared(which worked well in first half but was pretty poor in second).

I thought first half was pretty even-possibly the Gate shaded it.

In first half i thought defence looked reasonably solid for first time that i have seen this season.I thought reason for this was that Greg actually acted as a defender ,instead of playing too far upfield, and that extra man in defence made all the difference.Obviously the reason was he could'nt run anyway, but with him in defence things looked good.It also enabled Bill to play a proper sweepers role which again i thought he did effectively, but when he played slightly more forward in second half we looked exposed in defence and Bill was turned a couple of times.

I thought Gradley had excellent first half ,though faded in second.

Stunning goal by Rocky who ran effectively all night, helped out defence-did the lot.

Great early save from header by Trego in first half,a couple in second half-a few almost costly errors `aswell, but overall the good outweighed the bad.Would be nice to see him throw the bal out occasionally and start attacks that way.

After Oates went off injured at half time,we lost our way, and frankly i thought Thurrock were the better of 2 poor sides in second half.

Not his fault since he was played out of position, but Charam is not a defender ,as was evidenced by being switched inside after a while and during the 'period of further reorganisation' we conceded the goal.

I thought we were then all at sea in defence again

and somewhat fortunate not to concede again.

We did not look like scoring either-until-moment of brilliant individual goal by Benevides-in its own right as good as Rockys. As i have criticised Benev before i must most certainly commend the goal since that won us the game as we did not look like scoring again otherwise.

Similar too Charam ,Benev. is not a defender ,but again not his fault he is playing there, and in fairness ,whilst he was also 'turned' by his opponent on a couple of occasions in second half and we narrowly eascaped;his distribution from defence was better than most, since he played the simple ball down the flanks and thus out of the danger area. Also nearly had a second similar goal and a shot on target early in first half that was deflected away.

Have we lost Beckwith-big pity .

CK has a massive job to sort the defence out,but as above, if Greg is allowed to defend and not push to far upfield as in first half it did seem to make major difference

Clarke was strangely subdued tonight ,but hope that was just a one off.

Barnett -steady and fairly reliable.

Annon-fairly good game.

JK -fairly good game

Che-outshone for workrate and movement by Rocky tonight but did nothing wrong.

So delighted with the points, thought both sides were poor tonight, think the Gate were a bit lucky to 'escape' with the win,but two pieces of individual brilliance sealed the points-just.

Think you have summed that up correctly Michael. Would like to add that though Rocky had a good game for 75 minutes he did try his spoiling tactics in the last 15 which got him booked and from then on was walking a tight-rope with his antics.I thought that he was TRYING to get himself sent off at times.Over enthusiasm I shall put it down to.Cracking shot for the goal though from 20/25 yards.

Benevides is certainly no full back.Always wanted to get forward and take on players. which is great but though his goal was a fine one apart from two other good things didn't impress me yet again. As you say being put in that playing position isn't his fault.

Two new guys not playing tonight.Beckwith not there and Bulley still waiting to get on.Whats the point in getting these guys in when CK dosent play them.Crazy!

I think Moses needs a run and I'm sure he is a player just waiting to take off. 3 up front wouldn't go amiss.

We were fortunate again tonight-yes. but as done previously we made a very ordinary side look better than they actually were.

Keeper looked good even though he flapped once and gave a bad clearance once but atoned with the save from it. Better keeper though than others we have had.

The 2 and 3 didn't swap shirts! You must be seeing things. Heard you lot mention it as I went past you, thought it was a bit strange of you lot. Agree with the synopsis of the game. We were piss poor and I didn't think you lot were much better but you did desreve the three points.

No, I have no problem with the way you play at all, I just didn't think either team did football justice on Tuesday. I could hardly have a go at anyone else when all we did was lump balls up to the forwards all game. I think you have got me all wrong.
