A north-west London railway station has been badly damaged in a big fire.

Firefighters were called to Kilburn High Road station in Kilburn, at about 0145 BST on Saturday. Three jets were used to put out the fire.

 

A London Fire Brigade spokeswoman said about 50% of the station's platform one has been destroyed and about a quarter of the entrance lobby.

 

She said the cause of the fire was being investigated. The station is likely to be closed for several weeks.

 

The access bridge at the station was also destroyed in the fire.

 

Silverlink Metro services via the station have been suspended

 

Actually it's going to be shut until June 2005. Sorry about that mate they turned off all the power on the overheads while they put it out.

We did wonder, webbo.

 

Mr Thorns told me the fire had been started by an old tramp kipping in the station, and then we remembered that we gave Mr Viz one of the flares to look after!!

 

Thornsy - got the Liverpool Lime Street train in the end and still got to Chester at the same time, so no harm done.

 

Well, apart from to the station, obviously!!
