AFC Wimbledon ?

OK I know this has nothing to so with STFC but I'm a little confused, but excited, after hearing Wimbledon will have a non-league side as well. I have a few questions?

1. Is this new club in any way going to replace 1st Division Wimbledon?

2. Why was it formed? Is it because fans are angry that their Wimbledon will become a 'Milton Keynes FC' and want a Wimbledon-based footie team?

3. Where's the financial backing coming from?

4. Where are the players coming from? and,

5. What league will they start out in? I've been hearing Ryman Div 2 or 3.

Thanks

1. No. Two seperate clubs, hence the name AFC Wimbledon.

2. Formed due to fans not wanting to follow the club over to Milton Keynes in protest and wanting football back in Wimbledon

3. Fans and sponsorship. I believe over £70,000 was raised which is an achivement in itself.

4. Unknown, but friendlies have been arranged with Sutton, Dulwich and some other Ryman League sides.

5. Not any Ryman league. They've not been granted permission to join. It will most likely be some feeder league which if they win (likely given the finances and fan base) would get them into Ryman One next year.

As the Ryman League has now been resturctured, they would be going into a Division to the equivalent of Ryman Division Two.

(The 'top six' from Div 3 were promoted and then regionalised with all the teams in Div One & Two to form Div One North and Div One South)

AFC Wimbledon now have their own forum on here - find it through clicking the forums link at the top.

Thanks for that.

Very very interesting. I'd love to see AFC Wimbledon in Ryman 1, think of the number of fans they would bring as you said, and the money that would generate for the whole league.

It will also be interesting to see what quality of players they attract.

I don't really understand what you meant by

'It will most likely be some feeder league which if they win (likely given the finances and fan base) would get them into Ryman One next year.'

Would they not have to go up through the ranks from a Ryman 3, 2 then 1, then the Prem?
