Flares.

This is an important subject in the light of the Chairnman's notes from the Dorchester matchday programme, as follows:

"Changing to a rather miserable subject, may I confirm that the club was reported recently when a flare was let off during the away game at Suttion United. Not only was this disappointing, but those that were involved, even on the periphery, chose despite warnings, to repeat the action last week at Eastbourne. The incident appears to have been well discussed on the message board of our official website, although I for one will not read this trash any longer. I will however say once more and once more only and that quite simply is, that if this conduct continues, all involved will be banned from Clarence Park and every effort will be made to circulate names to all other clubs in the league. If those involved wish to protest or scream their innocence or insult me for my lack of understanding, then quite simply they can please themselves, as I really am no longer bothered in the slightest. The 'supporters' of this club will either do so in a positive fashion or they can go elsewhere and please be assured that if banned, there will be no reprieve."

I was not aware that the club had been 'reported' or that flares are banned when I made a light hearted remark last week comparing the size of the flare at Eastbourne with those at the San Siro Stadium. I unreservedly withdraw that remark accordingly.

A little research has shown that the possession or setting off of a flare inside a football statium is illegal. Perhaps someone could comment further as to whether this law applies at our level or is just for proper football clubs.

Anyway, harking back to the Sutton game, I exchanged several PMs with their steward after the game. There were five incidents of note, listed chronolically.

1. The flare.

2. EFM members drinking in the ground.

3. A City supporter running on the pitch after we scored.

4. Racist abuse from City fans directed at the number five as he was dismissed.

5. A separate, second incident of racism.

All of these are illegal, but the steward was particually interested in 4 and 5. These were reported to "one of our officials".

What has happened? Nothing!

i bet gibbo does still read the message board, i bet he cant resist sneaking a look at what his fave fans are up to now..

and of course if you are banned there will be a reprieve when gibson get booted out by someone who thinks your current plight is really acceptable for a club that not long ago was watching the mighty steve clark in front of a few more than 240 odd.. unless of course in those days 800+ people got in for free

re: "illegal"

There is a difference between something being 'against the law' and something that is 'against ground regulations'.

No.2 is certainly not against the law at the level, indeed several grounds in our division encourage the drinking of alcohol on the terraces by providing plastic glasses in the bar.

Would be very surprised if Point 3 was actually 'illegal' also.

Hi Zealster.

The Chairman's views are perfectly clear from his comments in Saturday's matchday programme. In particular, it is perfectly clear that he will not engage in any debate over rights and wrongs, justice or injustice, legality or Ground Regulations, in the event that he does choose to ban anyone relating to any future incident, as he thinks fit.

Whatever were your intentions when you made them, I suggest to you that your contributions to this thread are such that, if ever a flare is ignited at any ground in the future, whether you are even present at the time, is likely to result in you being banned.

Think about it, Zealster.

Well, Stortford were still allowing it four weeks ago.

And the reason we stopped doing it was after the can-throwing incident at Hendon. Gibson put a stop to it after that.

I think it's down to the individual club. It is only against the law at League grounds, where they come down on you very hard.

Blimey, are there still people willing to fork out £2 a go for that toilet paper?

As it happens I wasn't at the Dorchester match on Saturday, so didn't see his notes.

I did, however, go to the Chester/Cambridge match, and ironically enough, on the back page of the programme it reminds fans that "the possession/use of fireworks or flares is not permitted at any Football League Ground".
