What a frustrating game!! We dominated much of the match but Halifax scored a sucker punch goal in first half injury time and despite dominating possesion we just couldn't score.

We were the better side in the first half but couldn't create any clear cut chances and after a break in play because of Lee Boylan's injury we got caught on the break with Darren Mansaram scoring.

Second half we were the better team but Ollie Berquez missed two good chances and Boylan blazed over when clean through.

One of them games when we dominated but just couldn't score. We played quite well, battled well but it was not be. Halifax had a bit of luck and defended well.

So it's to Crawley on Tuesday night and no need to be disheartened. At least the crowd made plenty of noise. The Yellow Army got behind the team second half but luck was not on our side The attendance was half decent today considering the wet weather. About 700 Canvey and around 50-60 making the trip from Halifax in an attendance of 789.

Plenty to build on and I'm sure our hoodoo at Park Lane will come to an end soon.

I didn't think it was Ollie who missed both chances, wasn't it Greggors who had a ball through and volleyed it over? (Second half)

I was pretty disappointed with Ollie's performance today, I've always said he should be in the team, I still do, providing he doesn't have another game like that.

Then again though, Greggors didn't have a stunner either, i was still irritated by some of the comments from the stand, becoming a common thing. Maybe if I go in the away end there'll be less comments.

With my additions added, I agree with Yellow's report.

Extremely disappointing to come out with a loss, but these things are going to happen. Didn't really understand what was going on in the ref's mind...

Today’s game I felt that Canvey played about as well as they have done all season, we just couldn’t score. From about five minutes in I knew it would be one of those days. In the end I found myself giggling at the strange situations (blatant corners being given as goal kicks) and despite being the far better side we just weren’t gonna get the result. Halifax could be one of the most boring teams I have ever seen grace the green of park lane. Their fans were dull their manager was looking for a draw and the team didn’t look like they could be bothered, no wonder they only bring a few supporters, who on earth would want to watch that every week. But to be fair to them, they hung on and hacked the sh*t out of Boylan until they got lucky and got a goal. A member of their staff also was heard making several un savoury comments about certain canvey players, as well as their manager lying about the team not having bibs for the players warming up on the side lines, was that not Florissant orange bibs you were wearing to train in, oh maybe I was mistaken.

But all in all I cant complain (too much) the team played well and we were beaten by a lucky dull team that will probably end up top half through a series of one nil wins. If we play like we did today every week we will be with them, only a whole lot more entertaining.

Well done boys, I had fun.

p.s. I don’t know where yellow heard the canvey fans, yet again I found them pretty quiet most of the time and far to ready to slag the team off. Please start making some noise for the whole of the 90 minutes and not just when we are attacking well, we don’t want to be a team like that, and god we don’t want a mascot, some giant sea gull to gear us up. Lets make park lane intimidating for every team to come to.

Agree with fair amount from above.

Our back 4 had a bit of time on their hands today after Halifax shut up shop in the second half and Danny was playing sweeper in the end.

Can't remember them having a shot from open play in the second half.

I thought we were good for at least a two goal victory today. Their number 12 was the thorn who just seem to clear and do enough, but the chances we missed!

I was quite encouraged by our performance. From my view, thought that Ollie did not do too bad today and was involved in the thick of things. I don't like it though when Duffy moves over to the right as that's not his position.

I hope we can continue to perform to around this standard as hopefully this will keep us away from the bottom.

Well done lads and keep it going.

Thought we played OK, definitely better than against Barnet or Gravesend.

In terms of noise, place wasn't rocking but the atmosphere was better than at Barnet. In the second half I was standing with the regulars under one of the bus shelters and we were trying to get behind the team but it's a bit difficult when there's only about 10-15 people bothering to make the effort!!

I am beginning to doubt myself.

there I was thinking that if a team puts 10 men behind the ball and 'sit the game out for a draw' (an exact quote by the Halifax manager) and then after a lucky deflected goal put all 11 men behind the ball and sit out the whole second half without any imagination or drive, whilst the other team plays an attacking passing game trying to make chances (screwing them up royally, but trying none the less) then I have a right to call the team boring (for those who haven’t guessed im talking about Halifax) after several comments on the Halifax board I have begun to look into some of my comments and low and behold Halifax do seem to score goals and not play the boring football I suggested.

it must have been injuries then (their captain fell down a rabbit hole if stories are to believe and loosing their player when he dived in on one of ours (I hope both recover soon)) must have completely transformed your team and playing style because you bored me to tears

Then to make matters worse the BBCi web site (which we all know to be very accurate) http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_conf/3647242.stm says Halifax scored for a disserved lead.

so was I wrong about saying Canvey were the better side, god I really don’t think so but hay everyone has their opinion. The Halifax fans I met were all nice and most of which said Canvey were the better side.

As far as the accusations of sour grapes go, nothing could be further from the truth. I think we didn’t win because we didn’t make enough chances (our own injuries probably helped that) and the ones we did we didn’t score, we only have ourselves to blame, as well us and some bad luck

I congratulate you on your victory I just hope we can make it a more interesting game when we come up to you on December the 11th

Just read the report in the NLP and even the Halifax manager Chris Wilder admits his side were a bit lucky and Canvey were the better side.

One of them games really. As Jeff King said "we could have played till 10pm and still wouldn't have scored!!".

I think after Lee missed when through on goal you just knew it wern't going to be our day!!

we are getting into our purple patch now where we start to play some good football.. should last till about march.. ok in the ryman that will net us 2.7 points a game .. in here tho it will be more like 1 plus a bit... ok we should have scored but that slightly better defender or ever so more organised midfield etc.. make those ex easy chances that much harder.. as long as we are playing well and making chances our time to shine will come..

bring on crawley

.

COME ON YOU YELLOWS!!
