Not quite sure what game was being watched for the ratings there. Harris was dreadful, Murphy did O.K. but was never MOTM and how the hell did the front 2 only get 4's. Stuff the fact that he was out of position Spencer played well and even his harshest critics (Gary, assorted others, etc) aren't denying it. Wilko (obviously a favourite of yours then) got a 5 when he went off after 30 minutes and played crap while he was on including playing a huge part in giving away the first goal.

P.S. Not quite sure who this is 'addressed' to as I know Mats doesn't see the games and so the ratings are done by others.

But then it's all about personal opinions. I know who submits the reports into Mats, and I didn't think Wilko was that bad whilst he was on, nor Harris. At least the pair of them fight to win the ball back when they give it away rather than standing there moaning about it. Depends on what you're looking for in the players performances as a whole rather than individual things.

It is fascinating how people's perceptions of what is happening vary so widely. I also think it is influenced by whether we like or dislike a particular player's style,or attitude or even the player himself. Once some individuals get a down on a particular player, they can never do anything right - but the perception is in the eye of the beholder, not necessarily in the performance of the player. We have one guy who sits near me, for whom eveything Veli does is wrong!!! The same applies to those with rose tinted specs - I and quite a few people round me on Saturday thought that Spencer was a waste of time up front and left Murphy unsupported and with too much to do in holding up the ball.

Also, what is the point of a fullback who really is on as a winger, when he is upfield all the time and can't get back to help out his very slow back three? Again, a perception, with which many others will disagree, given the tactics that a team will play.

And how often when we get hot under the collar about a particular player's performance is it because they are playing to instructions?

It would seem clear that Eddie's perception of the performances will be different again, and he is the professional footballer and Manager, and we are not.

All makes for a good argument though, doesn't it?

I remember a little while ago someone questioned why not many people with our fan base do not post on here . The above , to me , shows why . Have an opinion and you get shot down in flames .

Also like what has been said before , this a forum for people to express opinions . I rarely post on here now because I got fed up with things like the above .

I usually do Mats' reports , but I haven't been to last couple of games and I know the couple of people who take my place when I don't do them and they are level headed people and if they feel someone deserves a low mark , then it's purely because they thought they were poor , not because they don't like that particular player and that's the way I see it too . There's players in the team that I don't see as good as some others think ,but I won't knock that , it's hoo everyone else see it .

But surely Wayne you could come on here and 'fight your corner'. Every discussion will have it's pro's and cons, and if some people disagree, then fair enough, but you might find people agreeing with your sentiments also. The more people that we have posting on here and the wider the variety of views, the better the board will be for all the STFC fans, surely?

Wayne,

I'm sorry, but I was NOT having a go at you or your report and am surprised that you read it that way - again perceptions!. I was making the very general point that I find it fascinating that we can all watch the same match and see something completely different. I was not saying for example that Radders was wrong in his perception of the way that Spencer plays any more than I am wrong for having a different view. Nobody is being "shot down in flames". I went on to say that clearly Eddie has a different view again and he is a professional footballer and makes decisions that on here people question. If he proves right in the end then great, but he is still the manager and must stand or fall by them!

I know some people do get abusive about other's opinions, but I was certainly not being rude or dismissive of your report. None of us know everything and I often learn things from the fans around me who perhaps have a quicker eye, or have played serious football and see things that I don't. But we are all entitled to voice a view, including you!

I suspect Wayne was referring to Radders more than you Andrew.

It would be terribly boring if we all agreed. As Gary said Wayne, if you feel someone had a mare or was top notch come on here and explain why. No one can criticise your opinion, just put forward an opposing view. And your bound to find someone who agrees at least in part. That is what all the best threads are like.

That's fair points lads and I wasn't refering to anybody , just the way I see the forum and I suppose the one little problem with disscussions on the internet is the tone and the way a point is put a cross can be be misled where as a face to face conversation can be interpreted better . I bit because I interpreted it as a citisism rather than that opinion . Probably why this sort of thing happens on forums !!

The way Mats' reports are done is that the reader can see after the player mark that a brief remark can be seen as how the writer saw that player , but as a result of this thread and those reports it doesn't get seen that way .

Right, firstly apologies if my original post was slightly over the top. It wasn't meant to be offensive or slagging off anybody although reading it back it does sound a little abusive. I agree opinions are important and it would be boring if we all had the same ones. Anyway I for one shall get behind all 11 players on Saturday to help our cup run.

1 question to Andrew; in your post you mentioned Spencer's performance on Saturday. Did you mean Saturday when he came on as sub or were you referring to Tuesday when he started? If the former then I agree he didn't do particularly well when he came on although no-one played well in that second half.

Sorry Radders, this is the second time I have got my matches mixed up - I meant Tuesday! Doh!
