Post Mortem - Long rant alert !

[color:"blue"] First let's look at some of the positives from the game.

In the first half, despite being down to 10 men for the last 15mins, we were equal to, if not better than a team that's lying 4th in the table. Che and Rocky both look sharp, Che took two marvellous goals(he'd have fluffed them a coupled of weeks ago). Rocky was responsible for the first, had a part in the second and should have had an equaliser on the stroke of half time (trouble is people forget his good work and just remember the negative bits - like the missed opportunity). In the second half he came close again, before they scored and took his goal well for 5-3. Oates was strong on his flank getting past their defence and, along with Beckwith held their attack back down that side. JK was creative in the first half, but fizzled out in the second. Clarke and Annon were the usual efficient selves. Darren has embraced the Captain's role well and was working his socks off yesterday, if when the game was dead.

player by player

Hussein.. brought on too soon into the first team, one for the future but not for the present. Has problems of confidence - pulls off saves, but fluffs crosses.

Oates.. playing well - Solid in attack, quick to defence

Benevides..still learning to play in a League where he's not star quality. He's not a midfielder, he's not a defender - he is a winger, who wants a free role - a luxury we can't afford at the moment.

Edwards..Bill's not looking right at the moment, seems to be having a slow start like last season.

Beckwith..plays the ball well, nice sense of position (shame he's only on a short loan).

Annon..Played like Captain Marvel. He could be our solution in midfield - he certainly has the engine for it.

Keister..Still good and creative, though in the second half looked jaded and despondent.

Gradley..for every good thing he does, he seems to do something bad. Makes the team as the least worse of the midfielders - after JK & Clarke.

Stadhart..Played well, lifted by his early goal he worked tirelessly.

Baptiste..Everyone says he's lazy and only seem to remember his negatives in the game, he created Che's first - set up Oates for Che's second and nearly scored twice before getting our third. All people said about him was about the two 'nearlys'.

Clarke .. Tireless energy, impressive workrate.

Barnett..is wasted on the bench when there are boys on the field. He's needed in defence.

Moses..showed in pre-season he can give an alternative to the attack, this is not being exploited.

Bulley..On for 10 minutes when the game has died - too little to form an opinion.

Charalambous/Ngongou..what is the point of putting these lads on the bench? Surely the bench is where we have players who can change direction of the game - these two are boys in a mens league.

Now I don't know how far CK's budget stretches (or whether it's stretched), but this boys for men policy is not going to work in this league. Already Chris has 'pulled the plug' on Ward & Pulman. Benevides, Charalambous and Ngongou should be next. Look to getting some old & wise heads (even if they're from the Ryman/Dr Martens league) in to sure up the holes, send out Nej on loan to get some experience.

Excellent report Peter. You have summed up everyone well. Cannot fault the lads for the effort. In 4/5ths of the pitch we looked like last year but in our box oh dear. The game was like a bad dream that started well and ended in a nightmare. Liked the banner for Billy and he went over and collected it. Also plenty of support if rather widespread. WE played great soccer for most of the game it was a joy to watch until the defending bit got in the way.!!! The nightmare did not stop ther as my car broke down on the A23 and i had to find a farmhouse to use a phone only to be chucked out before finishing my conversation with my wife. Found a garage which only had a nite till. Eventually got home at 2p.m. Not a good day. Still Gate did play some great football. Please can we have Mitten back. Is Turner too old??????????????????????????????

I.m.o. Oates HAS lost his speed. Does the good bits of pushing the ball past defenders and has great knowledge and skill but then he lacks that pace to get back to the ball. He needs speed training and more fitness training. As I have mentioned elsewhere WITH that burst of speed he is so lacking he would be a real STAR and I mean a REAL star! One of our true stars but could , with that extra speed really get back amonst the england non-league set-up again, even though competition for his position is high.

Yes Greg has lost his pace, but didnt you notice the pronounced limp towards the end on tuesday. Had an Achillies injury only 2 games ago, plus a sore knee.i think he's doing well just turning out. I agree with the lead post, its truly a pity we cant loan out the youngsters failing a lack reserve set up to gain experience. As a club the gate cannot afford to keep letting young talent go for nothing. <img src="/images/graemlins/bow.gif" alt="" /> Come on the Gaaaaaaaaaaate, Onwards and Upwards.
