Stansted v ETFC

Recommended Posts

We didn't play that well aginst a poor team and the worst ground in the league. 2-0 was the result. A first half pen from Hall and a second half strike from Asa. Ref did very well in the first half, played some good advantages but in the second half lost control of the game. Stanstead had one player sent of for hitting one of ours.

3 Points but we always seem to just shade it with a poor performance against lesser sides and save the good performances for tough games.

Just in case anyone asks which Hall took the penalty it was Rudi.
Nothing wrong with the performance, you can only play as well as the opposition let you.

Why this ETFC obsession with comment on the ref. The odd one ok, but every match report seems to have an early reference to the ref and how he did?

Not moaning but I think you guys are becoming more obsessed than Sir Alex.

Anyway, on the plus side you are having a good season so far and good luck for Saturday against Problem Family Town.

The thing is the refs always make sure they are the star of any game in front of a crowd.

I'm not too surprised people don't want to post about this game.

It was, as they say, a game of two halves. However one half was on the pitch and the other was off.

ON THE PITCH

ETFC did enough to win. The difference between the two teams were Rudi Hall in midfield and Dean Nyman up front.

Matt's shot which hit the bar in the first half deserved to go in - one of only a few good moves throughout the game. John Everitt's muffed header from the rebound is best forgotten!!!!!

The Stansted no. 6 (I think) had a good game - he played a similar role to Carey Wright for us and to be fair to him he outplayed Carey last night.

The ref blew for infringements far too often and didn't let the game flow - BUT he did the same to both sides so no complaints there.

OFF THE PITCH

The only memorable incident - for me anyway - was the Stansted no. 8's sending off. He had to go - he raised his hands and pushed one of the ETFC players in the face - but I was embarrassed to hear some of the rubbish yelled by our "supporters".

Calling the home team "a bunch of donkeys" at the top of your voice, when quite a few of their supporters are standing near you (one of them being the Stansted keeper's dad I think) is pretty daft really and bound to set things off unnecessarily. Not particularly edifying to have the game held up for a combination of an injured player plus overheated spectators. Even Geordie Hall looked amazed by it all.

Our club gets slagged off enough on this forum and after last night I can understand why. We won't be welcomed anywhere in the ESL if it carries on like that.

i was wandering around constantly, and was behind the goal for a bit and near the goal (basically by the loud mouths) and never heard this. it isnt bad language which is one thing, compared to some things that get shouted at other clubs or to other teams from other clubs. i think the language is good the way it is hardly any swearing at Town

Junior you are right - but there is a time and a place.

The incident I wrote about was right next to me on the sideline.

The ground at Stansted is very cramped - most people were standing on the one side of the pitch. All I am saying is use common sense. Barracking can be extremely funny and the barracking I hear at most ETFC games coming from behind the goal is just that.

But believe me, this barracking wasn't. It was stupid.

Not the normal stansted team good of Leyton to lend them DES THOMAS for a one off game i wonder why? few regular players in the stand moaning that they had been left out.

It is not unusual for clubs to lend players from time to time we've seen it before. Didn't Leyton give Stansted a minibus? I think they may treat them a bit like a reserve side to test players. The fact that it was Town isn't a surprise, Merce came out of retirement last time to play us and headed an own goal if I remember right.

Well done town anyway!

At least we don't throw things at the ref, like in the Roma game!!

OK thanks for the reports everyone and well done the Town.

Invisible Student informed me that while listening to the football on the radio tonight he heard a mention of Enfield Ladies 3-1 win against Ipswich Ladies. Yes, they did say Enfield Ladies! Anyway well done to the ladies as well.

Not that you really care, but I can report that Brighouse Town are somewhere in the top four. They were pre-season favourites but had a shock 1-2 away defeat at Campion and an appalling 1-4 home defeat against Bay Athletic. However a 6-1 home win against Hall Green Utd, 4-1 away win at Steeton and a home win by the same score agianst Tyersall, have put things back on course a bit. No bread pudding available yet though.

I was wrong before, this league (Mumtaz West Riding County Amatuer League) promotes into the North West Counties League (not NE Counties).

So now you know!

Here, here. The banter behind the gola was all good fun and the Stansted keeper took it all in his stride. However, I have noticed some Town fans who stand on the sides go way overboard with foul and abusive language thrown at opposition players and the ref. My mind goes back to the Barkingside game and the offside that clearly wasn't. One guy ran from the back of the terrace to the front screaming obsenities at the ref and there were kids nearby. This sort of behaviour needs to be stamped out.

FOUL AND ABUSIVE LANGUAGE -

Lets be clear, very few of us are so saintly at games that we never swear. Surely it is down to fellow supporters to try and calm things down if they feel they have got out of control?

We have done this on occasions behind the goal; when some folks have "lost it"
