Billericay 1 Braintree 0

Usual game against Braintree, they finished with 9 men and had George Borg sent to the stand. Same lineup as Saturday apart from Game replacing Hunter. Played well in the first half, Hockton scoring from the penalty spot. Lost our way a bit in the 2nd half against 9 men. Deserved the win although the heart was a bit strained in the final few minutes !!!

Got to be honest, don't think we played at all well throughout the whole game, winning only via a very debatable penalty. Even when they were down to 9 we didn't seem to have a clue how to take advantage. There seems to be a lot of very average teams in this division and unfortunately at the moment we are one of them. New personnel and different style of play are needed in my opinion or it'll be another season of disappointment.

You know I can't believe that some people can be so negative. We won, we deserved to win. Braintree did their usual, last 20 minutes, 2 players down, throw a body into a tackle, put as many bodies behind the ball. Okay, some of our play was disapointing, we could've had more goals but the fact of the matter is, we bloody won. Give the team some praise. Okay, we did lose our way a bit in the second half but we still were the better team.

In previous seasons, under Calder, we came flying out of the traps and then met Braintree at away. We lost our way and that was our season blown. This year will be different, I'm sure of it.

Average side? I think not. Having seen us play against Eastleigh and Northwood we were far the best team on the pitch but didn't convert the chances into goals. I dunno what the answer is, confiedence in front of goal would be my thought and we have a chance on Saturday to do that.

The Chairman, the management, the players and everyone who works or gives up their time is working hard, trying to put this club back up where it belongs...and if gratitude and positive comments were a banquet, I thank you for the cheese sandwich.

Now I'm off to the Boretree forum to see what they have to say.

Thought we did ok first half, solid at the back, against a pacy braintree side. Didn't create a great deal but as the half went on we got better. Just about deserved a half time lead imho. Braintree shot themselves in the foot with the red cards, yes the ref had a mare but there's no excuse to go chasing after him calling him every name under the sun. The dive for the second sending off was just comical. I think the fact we hadn't won in 5 games showed a bit as the game got near the end we got very nervous and almost gifted them a way back into it.

It's weird isn't it, manager changes, players change at Boretree but they still try every trick in the book to cheat their way to points.

Maybe Borg will one day realise that calling the ref a **** for 90 minutes is hardly likely to inspire him to give the benefit of the doubt, but I doubt it.

Danny "Football league my a*se" Gay was wasting time from the first whistle, and he hardly seemed in much hurry when they went behind. That said why should he care, I'm sure his agent has got a nice lucrative move lined up - maybe to a club with a few fans? <img src="/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

I thought in the first half we played quite well although the referee interrupted the game's flow with a succession of petty decisions. We were fortunate to get a penalty in the same way that we were unfortunate not to win at Northwood and Eastleigh etc etc...that's the way it goes. Braintree have only their own ill discipline to blame for not giving themselves a greater chance to get back in the game.

It was disappointing that we couldnt find a way past nine men for the last half hour but as has been said after a spell of 5 without a win the result meant plenty and we were a bit nervy on the pitch and on the bench. I am still confident we'll be there or thereabouts at the business end of the season.

Thought Matt Game did well for us on his first start (altho Hunter was unfortunate to miss out after a good performance at Eastleigh) and the back five looked solid again. Our old fav Ollie Adedeji was superb for Braintree but he was let down by the stupidity of his teammates.

Roll on Saturday.....

Think the most important thing is that we got back to taking all 3 points..Hopefully will do confidence a bit of good..First half was a better performance than second, but as just said the most important thing about tonight was the result..And I think Paul Gothard really enjoyed the win by the look on his face going down the tunnel...Well done Blues...Now please can we have a few goals in Southend Manor net Saturday...If we do that I am sure confidence will flow....

Overall i thought we played reasonably well, and it was only really our shooting that let us down. Im struggling to remember any shots on target aside from the penalty. Although it got a bit nervy in the last few minutes, i still think we deserved the win.

It was also good to have a bit of singing behind the goal, it was a good atmosphere all evening.

One thing i was disappointed by was some of the backchat to the goalie all evening. Im all for a bit of banter with the oppo goalie, and admittedly its a little unfortunate to be a keeper named Danny Gay, but fans shouting stuff like "your a f***ing c**t" to him, when he hadnt really done that much to wind us up, was just unneccessary, and doesnt add any humour. In fact it just leaves a bit of a sour taste.

All in all though a good evening, backed by a decent crows for a midweek game, and ill look forward to a goal fest on Saturday

You can never accuse games against Boretree as being dull. They generally produce more red cards than goals! We've taken 3 points off a fellow promotion contender and that's good enough for me. The conduct of the Braintree players was poor and they were lucky not have at least another player red carded.

Yes their No.11 was lucky to stay on the pitch after throwing the ball at a Ricay player after the ref had blown for a foul (and he was already on a yellow card).

Agree with JL regarding Ollie, I thought both number 4's on each side had outstanding games winning everything in the air.

I think we just need to pass it a bit more instead of trying to knock the ball in long. Matt Jones spends the whole game shouting 'pass it!'
