Team For Next Year

With some very notable omissions from my predicted/wanted starting XI for next year.

GK - ?? McCann - get him back in. He'd be available for half the wage of Mautone

RB - Howard. No questions.

LB - ?? Barrowcliff? Possibly. Depends on how mch he's earning....

CB - Daly

CB - Stott

LM - CJ

RM - ?? No ideas for this one, but a right footed CJ would be nice

CM - Barrowcliff

AM - Hakki

CF - Bartley

CF - Roach - Depending on wage.

No Ullathorne, Wilkinson, Hawthorne, Gilkes, Mautone, McPherson.

This would significantly reduce the wage bill and allow us for getting in some local lads in who could more than do the job of the overpaid current players.

Fine, especially as I would love to see Barras try and play in central midfield while at the same time playing left back! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="images/icons/wink.gif" />

Have to disagree with most of your suggested players to release. Mautone is comfortably the best 'keeper we could have available, his shot-stopping excels time and again. I always notice the lack of bite when Wilko and Hawthorne aren't playing. As for McPherson, I think he may be OK for another season, his experiance is vital, though I see the need for youth. Couldn't agree more about Ullathorne, overpaid and never showed the slightest commitment.

Sorry-but we need a team to get us out of this division next season-not a bunch of local lads who may be cheap but aren't up to it.There are players around who while accepting good money, also earn it.If we are looking to built a new ground and attract punters then we have to aim high.

Whilst I agree that we do need to get the best players, we also need to stick to a tighter financial budget. The likes of Mautone, Ullathorne, Hawthorne and Wilkinson don't come cheap and for a club of our income, we should look at either reducing their wage (How likely to be accepted by the player? Nil) or releasing them.

We need to consolidate now to get finances prepared for the new ground whilst also not sacrificing the better parts of what is a good side.

If we do get the full thumbs up for a new ground (there are plenty of twists and turns in there yet) then the finances will need to come from somewhere, and its about time the playing budget was managed properly and kept within its means, something which hasn't been done since the start of the Deaner era it would appear.

I'm sure Kieran will blank you totally when you see him next season!!!

Also Macca and Stotty are easily the best two centre backs in the league in my opinion and they must stay even if they are both nearly 50 now :-)

I'd like to see 90% of the squad stay. I'd keep Wilko ahead of Hawthorne as the Hawthorne who retured earlier in the season seems nothing like the midfield player who left us a couple of weeks back.

Also not too sure about Ullers and Gilkes, both stated VERY well especially Ullers, but both faded badly at the end of the season

We have a decent squad IF they stay and IF we get a decent pre-season.
