Referees help YES or NO

Why is it not possible for video footage to be used to assist the referees during play?

Such a move would, in all probability, necessitate substantial changes to the Laws of the Game, which are administered first and foremost by FIFA and are universal and applicable to football at all levels. Due to a range of considerations - financial, logistical etc - it is highly unlikely that FIFA would consider such changes.

However, the Laws of the Game are reviewed and amended annually, and improvements which can be implemented in a practical and reliable fashion throughout the world are always given careful consideration. It is difficult to compare football with other sports such as Cricket and Rugby League which have natural stoppages of play. The use of instant replays in football would most likely create problems in stopping and restarting play.

Should, in your opinion, replays be made available to assist the referee and thereby stamping out this abuse of officials and regular wrong decision making that is happening all over with the officials these days?

THEY DO IT IN CRICKET AND RUGBY IN THE TOP FLIGHTS BUT NOT IN THE LOWER LEAGUES SO WHY NOT IN FOOTBALL? WOULD TAKE A FEW MORE MINUTES OF COURSE PER MATCH BUT WOULD ARRIVE AT THE CORRECT DECISION AND TOGETHER WITH THAT IF THE OFFICIALS KNEW IT WAS GOING TO BE USED THEY WOULD TAKE MORE CARE WITH THEIR DECISIONS RATHER THAN GUESS! I do think sometimes that they do guess and even give decisions to favour teams though am in no way saying they are cheating. All this could be a good thing. It used to be said refs and umpires decisions should be taken in other sports but not now and their arent many of them now getting slagged off. Plus after match details wouldnt include that get out bit of blaming the ref and other officials for getting beat.

But then we wouldn't have days like Saturday where we can all self-righteously blame the ref for losing instead of our inept forwards (I refer the right honourable gentleman to Baptiste's laughable attempt at a header from six yards out early in the second half). Raging at the officials in the belief you have been robbed is rather enjoyable.

Not sure if you are still refereeing Cookie, but some of your decisions could have done with over turning! Only kidding Tony, (well some of them were crap!) But as a ref, how would you feel that every decision you made would then be questioned by at least half the players on the pitch and you lost overall contol of the game. You might as well have officials watching the game from a box on the side of the pitch and calling a halt to the game as and when neccesary!

Technology may have apart to play, as in Cricket, Rugby and Tennis, but as the flow of the game is all important from a spectators point of view, it may be difficult to implement.

[color:"blue"]I presume you're refering to the Premiership/Champions League & Internationals only Cookie. As all of the above are televised .. how about this then:

The referee can call for an action replay affecting either a goal, a penalty or a booking (ie: to see if there's an offside / foul / handball etc.) the replay gets shown on a large screen - so the fans can see it too - and the referee makes the decision.

After watching part of a game on sunday afternoon on Garlinge rec,and after seeing the Refs frightened reaction to a near bust up between the recipient of a very hard tackle from behind 1/2 a minute after the ball had gone and his foe,and there reactions to the official.I have come to the conclusion that a video should be taken of all games not for the 4th official to adjudicate but for the refs own protection.Do these mourons who are still suffering from saterday nights binge drinking, not realise without the officials they wouldnt have a game. I also love nothing more than having a moan about refs and some (most)of there decisions, they give us great excuses, but there word is gospil..Long may it remain so. <img src="/images/graemlins/bow.gif" alt="" />
