freeloader issue raising its ugly head once more

Palomino

Very true.

The following questions still need answering...

  • Is it in the constitution that Supporters Club Committee Members get in free? (Brew to follow-up with answers after meeting tonight - cheers.)
  • What are each of the Committee Members' roles?
  • How did Lucy Smith get voted in?
  • Has the constitution changed?
  • What is Lucy Smith's role?

Nossie - can't quite work out from your post if you are a Supporters Club Committee Member. If the answer is 'yes', then your first post sounds very guarded. If however you are not, then I guess you're like the rest of us who would appreciate knowing what's going on.

All this reminds me a bit of the Masons!!

Whoa Palomino.

Brew 2 is, among many other things, the husband of the Bar manager and a member of the Supporters Club Committee. Now. He's quite a sensible chap, and, presumably, if the constitution of the Supporters Club Committee had been changed to permit free entry to Clarence Park for Committee members during a meeting of t'Committee, he would be aware of that fact.

However. He might have needed a 'comfort break' during the meeting, or he may have been unable to attend one of the meetings due to a prior engagement, and if so, he would not be able to confirm the position absolutely. Let him check at tomorrow's meeting and then he will respond. That's fair enough.

I am all for 'new blood' joining t'Committee and if Lucy Smith comes under that category, good luck to her, and them and good fortune for us. Presumably she was 'co-opted' at a meeting under the terms of the constitution, as was Ian Bangs.

However, if selling raffle tickets is qualification for membership of the Committee, then that young chap called Patrick should be on it and, come to think of it, so should I. As I have purchased a season ticket, I wonder if I could have a club Ferrari rather than free entry to the ground?

Whatever happened to those that did things just for the warm and fuzzy feeling that comes with doing good things?

re: Lucy Smith and "new blood".

Yes, fair enough, and I have no reason to pick on this woman other than the fact she was downright rude to me on Saturday, but two more questions spring to mind...

1) Was she a Supporters Club member before she became a committee member?

2) Was she an active supporter of SACFC before she became a committee member?

Oh, and the 'role' thing.

I can't help with the timing of the Thurrock game, JKiF, but someone has just sent me a copy of the Constitution of The Supporters Club, dated July 2003 by E-mail. Unfortunately it's a scanned attachment thingy and I can only just about open those, let alone copy it to put on here.

It is a brief and somewhat vague document, which is not a problem in itself as, in my view, these things are best taken 'on trust' and with 'good sense' in any event. One of the clauses states that "No-one shall become a member of t'Committee unless proposed and seconded by two existing Supporters Club members 7 days before the vote takes place".

Presumably, that action was taken when Ian Bangs and Lucy Smith were elected to the Committee, by a vote taken at a Committee meeting.

No problemo.

There is no reference in the document to free entry to Clarence Park. No doubt, that husband of the Bar Manager chap will confirm that there has been no change to the position on here shortly.

It's a good job that I'm not a Lawyer, Zealster as this would be costing you a fortune:

"Clause 6} The Committee will consist of a Chairman, Vice Chairman, Treasurer, Secretary and other committee members required to effectively conduct the supporters club business".

In anticipation of your next question,

"Clause 2} The purpose of the club is to provide support to St Albans City Football Club and its supporters also to help raise funds for the club."

And before you ask:

"Clause 1} The club shall be called St Albans City Supporters Club. It shall be based at Clarence Park, York Road, St Albans."

[i suggest that Clause 1 is relevant when carefully reading Clause 2.]

T'Committee can speak for itself, Zealster, but I should highlight that fundraising is not the sole purpose of the Committee.

I happen to know that Ian Bangs is "Executive in charge of transport, supporters getting to away games, for the use of" or some such title.

Ian is also a matchday steward, of course.

Nice chap, too.

I notice you say "supporters getting 'to' away games", as he wasn't too interested in getting supporters back home again after Carshalton last season, AFF.

As for Helen, I remember now - she drives to Safeway eight times a year to pick up the Player of the Month award, so no problem with her getting a free season ticket. One would hope her petrol expenses are paid also.

I think Lucy Smith's role is something along the lines of "Executive in charge of administering wrist-slapping to flare-launching members of unrecognisible supporters groups".

She needs more training then as she picked on a member who had not and has never to my knowledge (can you confirm) launched a flare.

I guess that will come as she is new to the role.
