Height, Power and Strength

I was surprised that Barnett did not start yesterday.

To my mind, in this league, height, power and strength will always give you a head start over most sides.

Not pleasant ,but you can bully the opposition out of the way.

At national level, the debate may be going the other way with Englands mobile strike force, but many years before that filters to conference level.

Last season, Gravesend got this right after their poor start, signed some big guys, bullied Margate over Xmas, signed more big guys for this season(plus one token ball player in Manny who will be no more than sub once pitches get wet and winter comes) and look like superstars. At conference level it works.

I would like to see Beckwith and Barnett in the same team and supplement with a tall striker-a la watson ,and get someone with muscle in midfield.

In fairness, Annon and Che qualify as they have got power and strength ,if not height.

Someone may quote Grays-but Youds and Griffiths have got power, and it was another example of brushing some of our lightweight players aside.

Maybe CK thinks 5'10'' is big as he is not the tallest guy in world !!!

Lets get barnet back in the side and some stenghth in the midfield area.

It may not be pretty but again as Gravesend did last year it is a quick fix and brings results.

Lets power our way to success.

Very shallow i know, but i want to see results and success, with pretty football to come later.

Was near Barnett yesterday by the touch line and someone asked why he wasnt playing and he just shrugged his shoulders and shook his head as to say "he didnt know". Chris has been and is a loyal servant to this club but sometimes just sometimes his decisions beggar belief.Havent seen Barnett in action yet so am not sure of his talents but as mentioned above, tall and robust with a certain amount of skill is missing from the line up.

After superstarMark Green, Barnett has been best and most consistent defender by far, aswell as giving a bit extra threat up front at set pieces.

I think a very odd decision not to play him yesterday.

Personally i am very concerned as to how poor Edwards has been this season, but read he played well yesterday which is good.

Wish him well for his 400th appearance but trust blind loyalty will not step in the way of sensible team selection.

We need Barnett alongside Beckwith.

Maybe Annon could play in front of defence in advanced sweeper/Leberl role.He can play in midfield-can pass a ball and would add some power to our lightweight midfield.

Either that-or play Annon at left back instead of Benevides-at least Annon has played there before and is a defender

Yesterday BECKWITH enjoyed a fine last 15 minutes when reverting to the central position at the back but prior to that was all at sea because he hadnt settled into a rightful position. Didnt think he was all that though but to be fair he is only young and was only a gills youth player. Perhaps with a little more experience and understanding amongst the players around him he will improve. Not convinced on that one showing and by reports of Barnett that I have heard this youngster shouldnt be in his place. The lad is tall and scrawny and to be fair, one match isnt really much to go on but his ariel ability left much to be desired.Did well when one-on-one with Claridge so for that reason alone will give him the benefit of the doubt for now.Whether he should be in the starting line up WITH Edwards AND Barnett is a question though.Maybe put Barnett up front because his presence there may help get some goals of which our two boys up front are sorely lacking. Maybe for now put him up front in place of Rocky who seems not to be caring enough at the moment.

Think you will find beckwith will be a real asset.

Dod ok at Dagenham last season and was regular sub for Gills first team-i thought he actually got on the pitch but maybe not-.

He must be ok if good enough to make Gills first team starting squad
