Cheshunt 1-0 Slough

Unfortunately the answer is who knows. Not the sort of information that ever filters out of the club definitively. Apparently he said at Hampton it would be two weeks.

Let's stop moaning about the ref...

We were crap, really crap, and we had to try and tell Yeovil Steves mate that the performance/atmosphere/ground was usually never this bad.

We didn't just miss players, but also BFR and Foghorn, who lucky for them missed the most lacklustre slough performance for a long, long time.

Oh well

Wouldn't say we missed them as such, but at grounds like that where we all filter through single file behind the goal, you'll never really get anything going. It was similar at Hampton.

Agree though, they were lucky to miss that one. Not a nice place to go to either.

The biggest frustration about this game is we know that the players can do the business but it was performances like this one which lost us the title last season

Walton and Hersham, and Corinthian Casuals were two examples of the team not turning up and "if" we had won them we would have had the title by 2 clear points.

Where the players on the piss Friday night?

Yes the support was quiet but they can perform on Wednesday nights when there are only 30 in the crowd.

Worst perormance, not just how we played, but MOST annoyingly effort wise since Tilbury away. Second-half was a complete shambles after a fairly evenly matched first-half.

I can put up with losing, but it's the lack of effort that annoys me. Take Staines for example Tuesday, yep you can take that defeat as the players battled and the scoreline was harsh and Staines deserved to win as they were a decent side on the night.

But I thought we were playing against weaker opposition against Cheshunt. They had so much time and space in central mid it was untrue. Their five just sat in the middle of the park and was their ball player had about five mins to pick out passes without being under any pressure. That was the annoying thing.

Mets and Wilko aint working together in central midfield at the moment. Last two games they have been anonymous and it will be interesting to see Tuesday's line-up. First-half we were getting balls into Matt Murphy who had some great touches, second half we did not play him in at all.

The only excuse you can give is the injuries, especially up-front where Matt Murphy (who did have a good first half) has played with three different partners up front already in his short spell here. There's no excuse for chasing down players and hasstling them though.

Can't help but feel in central midfield we have two many like for like players - Mets/Wilko - tough tackers, Hakki/Harris/Spencer - creativity. If you are ganna play 3 in the midfield you maybe need someone different a box-to box player?

I dunno, but I just feel sometimes when we do go a goal down we panic and try and do everything 100mph like take quick free-kick's and try and get the ball forward too early.

Also on occasions I can't help but feel we need a bit of pace in the side which as we saw against us at Staines can be devastating at this level.

Anyway lets hope we put things right Tuesday as were a lot better than that.

Having waited to hear those comments : my reply

The facts : I did not Boo the ref ! The team were awful and don't deserve the appaulse after the game from our supporters, but however our supporters can have their say ! and if they feel they have to re act in that way so be it !

As the way some of you re acted to them ! (double standards) some opions always upset someone along the way but controlling those re actions in this case seamed to be the answer, and being able to put your case over is most important, that's what football is all about , differance of opions and above all the game its self.

cheers Chris (personal)

Chris,

If you remember correctly, you shouted abuse at the ref from midway through the 2nd half until after he passed you on the way to the changing room at the end of the game.. I think it was only at this point when the inter-supporter arguments started did you quietly apportion some blame on the players.. Its nice to see that in the cold light of day you have realised where Saturday's problems originated i.e with the players and management team. As the Chairman of STFC supporters , you need to at least show some consistency in your views as there are some people who support the football club and look to you for direction.. I understand football is a passionate game and sometimes removes all sense from those with the least to lose,, but encouraging the masses to blame the referee in particular on Saturday only made our proud club look ridiculous on a scale only Wycombe or Woking could comprehend.. Come on lets get behind the Amber & Blue and stop whinging our way into mediocrity !!!

Sorry to nitpick Mike, but Chris is not the chairman of the STST, but the secretary. Mike Lightfoot is the chairman.

Whilst the ref did seem to not give us the 50/50 calls he was giving them, not once did we really work the keeper, not for the first time this season. With Deaner, Hodges and possibly Miller out, Murphy cup tied for next week at Croydon Athletic, combined with our away form, it could be a very tough prospect indeed.

Agree wholeheartedly with your final comment though Mike, let's concentrate on trying to lift the team when they're not doing so well rather than get on their backs with moans and groans at every stray pass.

Yes just my point Mike L....

I may have said things about the ref (like we all do) and my comments are personal and caught up in the moment... opinions and views are for all , as the orchestraight a shout at the ref when he came off was not me...nor would I shout and scream at our players either...nor was the call to not clap the players off !

That should have been a personal decision too !

I have always looked to supporting a team especially when they know they have played badly and needed to be lifted for the next game !

I am passionate and not always right in what other people believe, but that is the name of the game !

Thats always what I have done and will contiune to do so....nothing changes for me....

I don’t think we were that awful in the first half, we created a few good chances but things were not going our way.

Second half we didn't test the keeper, neither teams created much and ultimately it was a defensive mix-up that cost us a point. IMO neither team played well but by our standards we were poor.

Even though I was disappointed with the result and how the players had performed I couldn't help but clap them off the pitch and tell them to keep their heads up for Tuesday. Everyone has different views and ways to let out their frustration and that’s fine, as long as we all turn up on Tuesday and continue our great support im sure the players will show Cheshunt was just a blip!

Come on you Rebels!

Apologies for my mistake.. I am obviously a little out of date..

I personally did think the ref had a poor game but still for me did not perform as badly as our players..

I also thought that technically Cheshunt were a worse team than Slough.. but won it because they were a bit more "streetwise" !

We are going to have to get used to being "roughed up" in every game we play and as supporters we need to encourage our players to give as good as they get rather than looking to the officials for protection.

Chris, don't know what is going on there. I sent it twice but it never turned up in my sent messages. Don't worry about it.

MikeL, I think you have a point. I have heard that Eastleigh are a tough tackling side and that goes in keeping with many of the teams we have seen this season. The refs also seem reluctant to dish out too many cards so why not play them at thier own game rather than looking to the ref. Time for Wilko to really get them.
