Disapointed today, 2 points lost with the last kick of the game. 2nd time in a week!

WE have clearly improved over the last few weeks, our football was good today, we were by far the better team.

But I feel we need to score more goals.

Gary Henty was attacked by an Eastliegh fan on the pitch ....which led to the 9 mins of extra time in which they scored.

They had 7 booked, and a sending off.

We will beat Braintree!

Attacked by a fan on the pitch? Surely the club will make a complaint to the FA. That is pretty bad!!

One shot on goal they had all match and scored it was again daylight robbery. The players and fans were gutted. Agree with The Town Crier, we need to score more goals. If we had put our chances away we would have had the game won easily.

As for the Garyy Henty incident, it was lucky the guy was evicted from the ground as a few of our supporters were going to put him under the ground.

This was a crushing finale for the decent sized Ricay following who made the 250 mile round trip to Eastleigh, coming immediately after suffering the same fate at Northwood.

Hockers was fit to start, as was Steve Forbes, and Neil Cousins was preferred to Gavin Heeroo on the right hand side. As has been the case of late we totally dominated the first half with a glut of corners and possession although shots on target were a bit few and far between. There can be no doubt however that our lead was deserved with Hockers heading home at the near post from a Cousins corner in the 45th minute. The only time I noticed Eastleigh in the half was when they piled into their numerous late and dangerous challenges.

The second half was more even although Eastleigh never really looked like scoring thanks to our defence looking solid and some absolutely abysmal shooting. Unfortunately the trouble again started for us when we went into "let's waste time" mode at the end and indeed it was this that led to the debacle that followed.

Gary Henty delayed the taking of an Eastleigh throw and their winger took that as a signal to appear to head butt Gary and Gary went down. This triggered the sort of melee amongst the players that isnt that unusual at this level. However then an Eastleigh supporter jumped over the advertising hoarding and appeared to kick and punch Henty while he was lying on the ground in a scandalous and cowardly assault.

The offender was led from the touchline by the Eastleigh chairman but the referee decided to add 10 minutes of stoppage time due to this and Eastleigh having rightly been reduced to 10 men equalised in the 99th minute with what it has to be said was a superb left foot volley from their 9.

The issue is that essentially we have been done out of two points thanks to an Eastleigh fan's thuggery and although we shall never get those points back we can only hope that for once the Ryman league show some teeth and penalise Eastleigh accordingly.

The good news is that we are still only 5 points off the pace and we all know that we are a good few points better than our current position suggests. I do think that Tuesday's game will be difficult though as Braintree are not a bad side, but lets hope we can get the win we need and deserve.

Firstly the football....

Thought our passing in the first half was excellent, moved the ball around well at pace. 2 players who were arguably under pressure to hold on to their places in the starting XI; Chris Stowe and Neil Cousins both turned in their best performances of the season to date, created 4 or 5 decent chances. Our shooting wasn't too clever though, didn't hit the target with any. Hockers scored on the stroke of half time to give us a deserved lead. Second half more even, still had the better chances before "the incident". Deep into injury time maybe lost a little concentration and they scored with their one shot on target.

Secondly The Incident:

I suppose nobody should really be surprised that a team as ill-disciplined as Eastleigh should have thugs for fans. Apparently that was their 4th red card of the season, and according to their website they are already up to 17 bookings. The number 10 could easily have been sent off first half for a fairly blatent elbow on Henty (what has Gary done to annoy Eastleigh) and the number 11 could have no complaints about getting a straight red for a head-butt on Gary. If their "fan" did that sort of thing on a night out in Southampton he'd be hauled down the cop shop post haste, no doubt he, and the club, will get off scot free.

On the footballing side you can only take positives away. Very impressed with Forbes, he added a touch of composure in the midfield, distributed the ball well and his height comes in well handy at corners. Thought Hunter was the other pick of the players. Defensively we were sound and an Eastleigh goal never looked on the cards. As for the 'Incident', it was just so out of context with everything that had happened prior. It was their players commiting the fouls and getting themselves booked, it was their player who nutted Henty. Be interesting to see what happens from here. I noted that The Romford Recorder had a reporter at the game and may well be worth a read.

Well, I disagree, I don't think enough has ben said about it (the incident). I am disappointed to read in the Echo tonight that Gary does not want to press charges, though that of course is his right and can understand to a degree that he might just want to forget about it and move on. BUT...

If so called "fans" aren't properly punished by the law of the land through an arrest and charge being made, then it gives out the message to any other similar nutter that "well, I'll only get banned from the ground and no criminal action will be taken against me if i jump in and thump their full-back" and who's to say this chap or any other won't turn up at another nearby ground and do the same or worse ? I was particularly mad at seeing this incident as it was only the second game I have taken my young son to (not that he'll remember it of course!) and dread the thought of having to spend the next 10-15 years or whatever at matches explaining the actions of idiots like that to him.

I must say though that two or three genuine Eastleigh supporters could not apologize enough at the final whistle as i walked past, one of whom must have been around only ten years old and showed a maturity in his attitude infinitely superior to the thug ejected from the ground nearby him.
