Margate vs. Weymouth

Firefly

What kind of qualification (if any) do they need?

Is there a body or organisation that puts them under scrutiny?

Is there any kind of complaints procedure that calls their decisions to account?

If any of the above, what can we do to try to get the standard raised?

Surely it is in the best interests of fotball in general that we get the highest quality referees we can, but how does the standard get a) set and B) raised?

There is probably a better way of putting this, but i wonder if Mark Green and Dean Beckwith played together at Gillingham?

Green is superb ,and if by chance we could get beckwith on a season loan, then would be a big improvement to the defence.

Remain surprised that Barnett did not make the starting line up

TODAYS NO 8 DIDNT GET INVOLVED ENOUGH FOR ME TO PASS COMMENT BUT WHAT HE DID DO WASN'T VERY IMPRESSIVE AND BENEVIDES DIDNT LOOK TOO BRILLIANT EITHER TO ME,( WISH HE WOULD PULL HIS SOCKS UP) THOUGH HE WAS PLAYING IN A POSITION THAT MAYBE HE IS NOT USED TO. Only seen todays game so not really fair to critisise then on todays showing.

I agree with Cookie, number 8 wasn't up to standard, and didn't really notice he was on the pitch 90% of the time, I presume Barnett will now take Keister's midfield place while he is banned, so it could not be all bad!

well from what legend has told me sounds like the game was decided by a lousy ref possible the worst way to lose.

I am almost glad i was at work tbh as i think i would have chined the ref from what i have heard, now how the [****!!****] does a guy get a job as a ref being as poor as every 1 seem's to be saying he was its disgusting and Mfc should at least log a complaint with the conf about him.

OK the ref was lousy but the reason we lost was simply because we didn't score any goals - the ref had already blown for the (dodgy) offside before Che put the ball in the net so hardly counts. At the start yesterday there did seem to be a bit more willingness to test the keeper but dried up a bit as the game progressed. A big target man in the box would always help, Che gets pushed around too easily and Rocky does look a bit lost at present, a good reason for having Barnett on the pitch. All in all though it was a good team performance and the side does seem to be gelling well given the limited time they've had - I remain optimistic if we can avoid further injuries and suspensions (easy to understand JK's frustration but with only seconds to go.....)

Margate Don. As an ex referee I for one do not normally critisise referees as its a hard enough job anyway and they can never win so unless you have officiated and seen it from the other side you will understand just why I DONT CRITISISE THEM, but yesterday left me with no option but to do just that, critisise the ref. There were a couple of definate shirt pullings against che in the box that he refused to give penalties for and that one off-side goal that was turned down and blown for WRONGLY. That decision actually was a wrong one from the lino as I was smack in line with the last player and rest assured he was wrong. Yes, the players missed hatful of chances, yet again and yes, its not solely the refs fault but ours, but when we blame the players for not scoring then see them actually do just that then get wrongly pulled up for it by the officials then it is only just to blame the officials and yesterday was one of those days when it can safely be said we were penalised incorrectly by the officials.

...and getting back to the football side of things, just thought you'd like to know that the ref's performance was being monitored by a conf. assessor yesterday!!! not that we will get to hear of any outcome but i would imagine a spot of bother could be coming his way any time soon!

btw, it was good to see the passion back in the gate fans yesterday, even if it was for the wrong reason, and caused by the worst ref ever!!!

Also, I'd like to point out some of the positives of the match, Nej looked good in goal, and made a couple of amazing saves from close range, and that tackle at the end proves how fast he is, the other player started about 20ft closer to the ball, and he did very well to win it, after the defence let him down again. One thing did occur to me a couple of times while watchin the game though, Darren Watson could have scored that... where is he now? He may have been poor in the air for someone so tall, but when he hit that ball, it went in the net.
