are you crazy, we have had a hard start to the season and have only lost one game, and that was to a team that are sitting at the top of the table having won 5 drew 1 and lost NONE. we have also got 3 draws against teams that are in the top 6 in the table. we also beat a team away that was hoping to be contending with the title.

what on earth did you expect, to go up a league and win every game, is it possible that there is actually anyone that naive.

the people who thought we would defiantly end up top 5 are optimistic.

yes we struggle a little, we have gone up a league that is bound to happen. but I think that mid table is an OK start to our 1st season in the conference after only 6 games and a brilliant place to start building from. if we finish in 13 at the end of the season I will still think we have done well.

to be honest Im liking having a bit of a challenge, it was getting dull walking over every team we played

Agree - no game looks easy in the conference.

Even this Saturday - Farnborough have won two on the bounce and should be quite confident.

What worries me - and this has been discussed previously and is probably a whole new thread all of its own - is the officials.

Beacuse the games are more difficult and I would say more challenging, it only takes one poxy decision to lose a game or even obtain points where they weren't forthcoming.

Queue - Gravesend fans "it was a foul on the keeper" rightly or wrongly - but you see how it can swing a game and valuable points.

Quite honestly I can't see you guys getting into the relegation dogfight. You play good football and have an excellent striker in Boylan. Being able to give him the service he needs will be where it counts.

You're now in a leagiue with a lot of full time clubs and it does tend to show when you look at the number of part time clubs in the top half of the table. We (GNFC) struggled in our first season but we've picked up well over the last couple of seasons.

Afraid to say that we also found out the hard way that there is no step change in the quality of the officials in the Conference versus the Ryman. Just get used to it - there will be at least one decision a game that will be hotly disputed and could change the result.

Smithyman - I remember reading GNFC posts on the Canvey forum last year warning us about the standards being lower than the Ryman.

It's only now we are in the Conference that I appreciate how true those comments were!

Imagine if you had got the decision at Park Lane and Canveys goal was disallowed. You'd be getting a nose bleed now being top with those extra 2 points! (Sorry haven't checked table but presume your goal difference is better than Barnets)

with chances being few n far between the refs input has much more effect in tight games.. you have to hope they even out over the course of the season.. we'll get a few crucial ones going our way ...

G and N had the hump massivly with refs early last season , but also they were sruggling then.. now on the back of an excellent run they will be less bothered about the decision as they are flying high.. its all relative.. i think the fleet are a good example of what we can do in this league being part time.. despite their looney hatred of all things gull shaped i hope they carry on d.cking the full timers..!! come you part timers!!

Benny, like you I regularly logged onto the forum but never contributed until today.

I won't be able to contribute like the regulars either - I don't have that insider knowledge I just attend games when I can.

However, now I have posted I think more people should especially if you do have a view - right or wrong.

Oh - and yes I think LCF could well be an idiot.

Sign up people, the more the merrier. One decent thing about LCF is that he's brought the people out to play .

You don't have that insider knowledge? I'm 16 and only visit home games... Just bloomin' sign up

There are plenty of teams worse than Canvey you boys wont be relegated.

Although Aldershot made the play-offs last year it is a big ask for any side to get promoted two seasons running.

Mid table obscurity for you lot then, which is no bad thing..... despite our good start if the Fleet finish anywhere in the top ten I will be delighted.
