New Ground Preliminary

Recommended Posts

There was a meeting and from the report in tonights Echo it went well. The Highways Authority had a problem with the access planned for the new ground but that seems to have been sorted.

The next big problem is that because we are surrounded by water we should have a flood risk assessment by the Enviroment Agency and this costs big money. It is hoped that we won`t have to have this done but we will have to wait and see.

I know this is a serious topic - but Flood Risk Assessment by the Environment Agency!

They should know we are a flood risk - they spent millions by encircling us with concrete trying to stop it <img src="/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> They are trying to claw back some of the cost......

Anyway - if water starts coming over that wall - I for one won't be sitting in a new stadium watching football - I'll be running up Essex Way as quick as I can <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

over the roundabout, taking care not to hit ones head on the sharkfin/tail thing.. past the burning riccay fan in that burny thingy.. leg it towards benfleet.. up into the boatyard and onto the top of those sea defence gate things.. across there sharpish as the water will be getting deep now..no pushing as someone will fall in.. jump off the other side, swim/wade/scrabble over the railway tracks, look both ways please, keep left through the car park, up through the council car park then into the anchor at the mini roundabout where the water will be lapping by the doorstep for a pint...

they can cut this out n stick it in the program if that will keep the council safety boys happy

What a thought the last thing you hear as you slip into the abyss is Fred playing jingle bells as he has not managed to get the last post right yet.

On a more serious note if the new stadia needs a risk assesment with regards to flooding that is not a major job and should not be vastly expensive.

Tides are fairly predictable and if we are looking at a spring surge tide. We cancel the match, the dangerous times of the year are sping and autumn, we can plan around that.

The bigger issue for me is do you invest in a property that is likely to flood within the next ten years. Global warming and the fact that Canvey could be sacrificed to save London.

Or do you just build it on stilts.

i think the 'sacrifice canvey' to save london bit is overdone.. they shut the thames flood barrier 20 odd times a year already..

the only way the island will flood is if the wall breaks.. unlikely looking at the size of the thing, but i suppose an oil tanker could put a dent in it.. if the water came over the top the tide would be so high the thames flood barrier would be usless and vast tracts of essex would be under water.. seeing as 'high' tide is with us for what a hour..? then only so much would slop over the top.. in fact canvey is probably safer than loads of coastal essex

Not sure how much it will cost or how long it will take but this is a quote from councillor Ray Howard taken from the article in last nights Echo about the risk assessment...

"The other issue we have is with the Enviroment Agency. Because Canvey is on a flood plain, a risk assessment has to be obtained.

However, this costs a significant amount of money. If the club is going to survive, we don`t want to burden it with extra costs.

It has been agreed that, as a member of the Essex Flood Defence Committee, i will meet senior members of the Enviroment Agency and try and make them see Canvey is different and not in need of this risk assessment"

Jesus Christ they worry about bloody everything, they had better include preparation for the terrorist attack we are bound to have whilst a meteor plummets towards a head on collision with a pack of wild eastern European rabid dogs with wings that are attacking the ground as the water laps against the gates.

If the council are questioning its use we could point out that it is foremost a football stadium, but has the potential to be the biggest water polo venue in the country.

If it does flood I suppose GNFC fans will be on here straight away to complain about the floodlight failure due to water ingress into the electrical generators <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />obviously planned by Jeff King.
