Is it apathy?

..........prior to last Saturday, we had won just one game since January 1st 2004 at Clarence Park........of the three players signed in a blaze of publicity pre-season, one didn't make the first league game, and another can't get off the bench..........at least two of the new players who have joined the club since the start of the season are woefully lacking in match fitness...........of last season's succesful Reserves side, most of whom came through the Yoof set-up, only 3 remain on the books of the club [but at least this season's Reserves are playing in a stronger League]........one of the most popular young players is on trial for a months loan to Harlow Town[but "Chris will benefit from a loan deal"]........it would seem that at least one of the 'squad' players is getting games at Hatfield Town......thanks to 3 points last Saturday, we have 7 points from 7 games and we have yet to play a side who are likely to finish in the top 10.........

.......after 4 home games, the average home attendance is 305, one less than last season's average of 306 which itself virtually halved over the course of the season.......

........we are 7 games into the new season in the Nationwide South and the team is wearing last season's shirts proudly emblazoned "The Ryman League".......

.......plans for a redevelopment in Park Street including the relocation of St Albans City F.C. are the subject of informal discussions between the Parish Council and the residents in advance of a Public Consultation early in the New Year.......

And what do I see or hear? Half a dozen people at most on here expressing unease. That will move mountains.

I'm concerned about this Park Street discussion. I recall somewhile ago that this matter was discussed on here and the club reacted badly. I believe there was an article in the Observer where the club suggested that those involved in building such developments did not do so for profit.

I find this hard to believe.

What is the motivation behind this?

Only two possibilities spring to mind:

1. It's for the benefit of the club.

2. It's for the benefit of those involved in the building.

I can't see how (1) is possible: what would we gain from moving to Park Street?

It really depresses me.

There are a hundred points I'd like to add to this thread, but I've made them all before and you just get the usual faces on here telling you not to moan, and forecasting how great it's going to be.

I never thought I'd see the day where I'd spend second half's in the bar rather than watch the football, but I just can't get into it while the club is in this state.

I think my heart and soul eventually left this club after two incidents last season...

[*] When I was banned from the ground and given no explanation as to why.

[*] When two of my friends were assaulted by SACFC players in the club bar, and the club brushed it under the carpet, condoning the players' actions.

I try and I try, but I cannot think of one area within the club which is actually well run.

Every day I think things can't get any worse, and then you hear a story about Seeby leaving, or a story about one of your top players turning out for another team.

From one week to the next, we have no idea what the first team is going to be. We seem to have a debutant playing every Saturday, and as soon as we begin to recognise a player's face, they're gone to play for someone else.

The situation with last season's reserve side is a farce. Kev and Clive must be absolutely heartbroken to see such a promising team broken up.

I look around at various officials/directors of the club and see their faces on a matchday and you can tell they just don't want to be there. Half of them are knocking on 70, and only turn up for their free meal ticket.

What else? Stewarding. Tea Bar. Programme. Marketing.

It really fking depresses me.

Two minor points, AFF.

Quote:
at least two of the new players who have joined the club since the start of the season are woefully lacking in match fitness...........

The whole squad are woefully lacking in match fitness.

Quote:
[but at least this season's Reserves are playing in a stronger League]........

I don't think so. Considering they play about one game every three weeks, I would say it is considerably weaker and with all our younger talent fleeing the nest to play regular football elsewhere, I can see a repeat of the Farnborough debacle of three or so years back, when we were unable to field a full starting eleven.

One major point, AFF

I have a very bad feeling about this.

This club is going to the dogs!

Soundbite pre-season something along the lines of Seeby has been our best player pre-season, so he plays the Sutton game and does well, now I wasn't at the Welling game but it seems that he has been made a scapegoat for that defeat as the lad has been on the bench since and now he's off on loan to 'arlow, talk about shattering the lads confidence as for the likes of Cogger leaving, it's a [****!!****] discrace!

The reserve team is in a division with 7 teams and have a 3 month period without a game, Castle has got in his own man to manage and I bet he's on the payroll like the rest of the [****!!****] freeloaders gravey train people!

So once again we have a season with about 50 non-league journeymen doing the rounds, if we're gonna be [***!!***] I'd rather we were [***!!***] with players who give a [***!!***].

The team is woeful, the manager will send us down.

Nobody knows this club exists, there is not a single poster in town about the games, this chairman can't be arsed.

Ask yourself the question why would somebody who is a lifelong Newcastle supporter who has lived in St.Albans for years and hadn't bothered attending a game ever suddendly buy the club, I'll tell you why, he's a [***!!***] builder and he'll make a ton on this new devolpment for the 297 hardy souls to visit, thats why the current ground has been falling apart since his day 1.

And if your reading this I don't appreciate being called a racist in the local press, I find it insulting and a slur on my name and my friends.

Sometimes I wish that we had folded back in 2001 and started from scratch again.

- can we keep personal abuse and threats out of this ... thanks.

I couldn't agree more! We'd be on the way back up now. We'd be winning and attendances would be increasing.

The likes of "voice", myself and others used be the minority in our mistrust of the current set up. I believe we are quickly becoming part of a majority, albeit of a smaller group of supporters.

Isn't about time some of us were beaten up again!

Eh? I read the original, un-edited thread on Friday, and there were no threats.

And the only "personal abuse" dealt out was to Thornsy who has been serially branded a racist by the powers that be at this club.

Seems censorship has reared its ugly head once again on this board. <img src="/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />
