Enfield Town 2 AFC Sudbury 1

Recommended Posts

AFC Sudbury s[****!!****]ed onto our pitch is arrogant mood as they arrived at just another club to be thrashed on a glorious sunny day.

And so the match begun and in the first 20 minutes they threw everything at us including the kitchen sink. Chopper and the defence stuck to their task well. The ball went in the net but only after the ref had blown up for an offence.

At half time you had the sneeaking felling these guy werre ripe for the taking and then you pinched yourself for thinking we could beat them.

Second half we came out and Town were getting more into the game and our fitness was starting to tell! Lee smith got with the ball and hit a screamer like Stephen Gerrard last night for England. the fans taunted Smithy are you Gerrard in disguise.

the game went on and the ball was on the edge of the box the keeper went for it but caught it outside his box. Penalty for town. Rudi Hall was up to the tas k and nailed it 2 - 0. Town fans were pinching themselves in disbelief. Was this the same team that appeared to struggle against Leverstock Green.

We hung on for the next 20 minutes before AFC Sudbury nailed one 2 - 1. Then in extra time the 11 from AFC Sudbury missed an open goal.

Final score 2 - 1. Thank you very much. Towns best victory ever and against a team that had great ability and quality.

WE WON! YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A GREAT TEAM PERFORMANCE!

Very good TEAM performance from ETFC. Opening 10 mins I thought this could be backs to the wall stuff but some brave defending kept us in the tie and gradually Town came into the match. The defence looked much more sound than it has for a while with Graeme Hall marshalling well. We were pretty much reduced to long-range efforts during the first 45 mins.

With the game 0-0 at half time I thought Town were certainly in with a shout.

JC certinly fired the lads up at half-time and they came out looking for a goal. It duly arrived as Nyman took the ball down to the left byeline and pulled the ball back for Smith to fire first time with his left foot into the far corner - great goal.(1-0)

Town seemed to have found the measure of Sudbury and were now breaking down the flanks thanks to intelligent balls from Rudi Hall. The Sudbury keeper retrieved the ball at the edge of his box which was met by appeals for hand ball. I am reliably informed that he then proceeded to retaliate to a Nyman nudge and because the keeper was in fact inside the box the ref pointed to the spot. Cool as a cucumber Rudi Hall put the penalty away to the keeper’s left.(2-0)

Cue Sudbury cup fight-back. Inevitably they brought on a forward for a defender. Smith and Everitt made good chances to build a 3 -goal cushion, but the Sudbury keeper pulled off a great save and Everitt’s effort cleared the bar with Smith unmarked at the far post. Meanwhile, at the other end Chopper was at his best sending a shot around the post and his judgement was perfect in allowing another Sudbury effort to deflect off the inside of a post and across the goal-line behind him.

Approaching the 90th min the Sudbury sub was put through and beat Chopper from close range. Were ETFC about to ‘do an England’?! With seconds left Sudbury launched waht proved to be their final attack of the match. 2 passes in the area saw it come to an unmarked Sudbury player 8yds out with only patchy grass between himself and the back of the net. Everyone in the ground is thinking “replay tuesday night” - everybody that is except the Sudbury player who achieved the near-impossible feat of scuffing his side-foot shot and sending it wide of the left-hand upright.

Ref finally blows and Jimmy Chandler’s barmy army marches on!

The ref and linos had an excellent game and I wish we could have them every week - no complaints whatsoever.

I think that's a little unfair. They were good and they know they're good but I think 'arrogant' is definitely unfair. Teams need confidence or they wouldn't bother to turn up.

Handball outside the box is not and can not be a penalty offence. The penalty was given because he shoved Dean Nyman out of the way

The ref gave the penalty because the keeper kicked out at Nyman.

What a result for the Town. Our 4 first choice centre backs out injured. Our striker only half fit.how did we do it.?

Campbell and Everitt were my 'men-of-the-match',but the whole team played well.Nice to see about 7 or 8 ex-Town players watching (including Clarky,Allen,Watson,Digby..etc). Most of the Abbey sqaud were there. I heard one of them would have won a big payout at the bookies, if the Town had lost the game. (shame <img src="/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />).

I had us down for a 0-3 loss ,It just goes to show that the magic of the F A cup makes players try that much harder ,wright campbell hall & everitt what a brilliant effort from these lads & well done to the rest of our boys and what a strike from smithy. Bring on the Harlow.

Carey Wright got MoM today but one player who definitely deserves to be mentioned in despatches was Karim Al-Mukkah. He came on as sub in a game as intense as that one, to make his competitive debut, and looked as if he had been playing with the team for ages. He fitted in really well and didn't let the occasion get to him. What a find!

Steve Baldwin was my MOM today. Even after sub of geordie, he was marshalling the defence, with rigor.

On a special note to Smithy.

ARE U GERRARD IN DISGUISE, ARE U GERRARD IN DISGIUSE.

well just finished celebrating with a massive BBQ

great result, MOM - Chopper, no questuons, kept us in the game, if he didn't make so many crucial saves we would have been 4 nil down in 15 minutes.

Penalty - the ref missed the keeper catching tha ball outside the area; but he did se the keper kick out (in retaliation) on Rudi = pen and a booking

Officals - can we have u every week?

Crowd - think 391? good turn out for a sunday, same again next week?

Harlow? will not be easy, may the good lord keep us from complacency.

LMH - excellent mascot - can she also be there every week?

where was pinnacle - hiding?

see you all @ sawbo

FYI

must agree the officals were first rate today; not just the ref; but the lino's were spot on and got involved.

A great lesson for ESL lino's...

..you are allowed to raise your flag and give a decision;

and

...also off side applies when the ball is played not when you wake up

anyway; well done; any team in ESL would be pleased to have these guys officiate

ps heard a rumour that ESL league chairman was going to be there today,

was he?

does he still exist?

he has been very quiet.
