Today's Attendance

I have to admit, I thought there were a lot less than 360 (or whatever) there yesterday. I was expecting something like 320 to be honest. If you work it out, our crowds this season are pretty much normal, even though they're a bit higher if you see what I mean - not many clubs last season brought fans with them, but we've had about 100 from Wealdstone, and 30-40 ish from both Braintree and Salisbury.

I thought it was quite disapointing considering the weather and no premeriship/championship games.

We are losing quite a few people cos of playing at Windsor, and it the longer we are there the worst it will get i reckon.

I wore my top in the rose and crown pub in slough high street later in the evening and loads of people asked the score, a few said they've been to the odd slough game, but unfortunately they all supported premiership clubs.

Still my brother, whose a Fulham season ticket holder came with his kids so it is possible to get people along....

I think we need a good cup run to drag some more floating supporters in.,

Supporting Premiership clubs is ok though because most probably don't actually go. Arsenal have got a waiting list as long as your arm and Chelsea's just too expensive for most people to go every week.

I'd be quite happy for Arsenal or Chelsea fans to come along and watch Slough in between the odd Premiership match. That's what we should be doing - trying to attract people and make Slough their second club who they watch on a regular basis.

How did you work out 30-40 Braintree supporters Matt, there was more likeley 3-4, the number of Flags outnumbered the fans, and Salisbury must have had at least 60 odd supporters

Fair enough about Salisbury. But I think Braintree had more fans in the stand along with directors, etc. Braintree usually take about 30 away apparently.

As for Ian's point about getting fans of top teams to watch the Rebels when their team is playing away or not at all, I think it's a great idea. It works for Dagenham & Redbridge - in fact they advertise (or at least used to) in the West Ham official magazine. Something along the lines of 'Hammers not playing? Come along and watch the Daggers!' , complete with info about the club, admission prices etc. I know the big clubs aren't THAT close to us but it's still a good idea.

Brentford, Chelsea, Fulham, Reading. It's not just us in the market for those fans though, there's Marlow, Maidenhead, Burnham, Aylesbury, Beaconsfield & Windsor. Tough market....

Success on the pitch and especially in the cup will bring the people in, along with a good atmosphere. Let's hope Eddie and the boys can keep doing their bit, whilst us fans keep doing ours.

I would personally target Chelsea fans - especially as it is so expensive to see them.

They also used to read Sloughs results out at half time. Maybe if we can't afford to pay for an advert in the programme we could target their fan forum sites?

Still, at the end of the day, its getting kids at a young age to come thru the turnstiles - which is why we should do more £1 deals for kids like there was at the Salisbury game.

Don't think it's wishful thinking, it COULD work. I doubt very much if we could get get Chelsea to read out our half-time results, but it would be nice to think we could advertise in some of the bigger local sides' programmes !

Do we think it's feasible that, for example, Chelsea fans in Slough and the wider area (Heathrow area, West London etc) would be interested in coming to watch Slough occasionally?

3-4 yeah right.
You were just looking at the 10 odd behind the goal, we had club officials and our older fans who go in the seats or stand opposite the main stand.

We had about 25. I saw them.

We used to have a lot of Chelsea and Brentford when we were in the Conference. One of the people I work with is a Brentford fan who only comes to Slough now for the bigger games, but used to be a regular if Brentford were away. It's that sort of 'fan' we need to be attracting at least on an ad-hoc basis.

Brighton Rebel's point is right that it would be nice to get youngsters to be Slough fans but they're only going to come with their parents who probably aren't Slough fans hence the need to get people through the door acknowledging Slough as their second team.

Take Rob Anderson as an example - committed QPR fan who comes to Slough when Rangers are not at home yet his daughter is a Rebel through and through. And, now he's starting bringing his younger daughter, hopefully she will be too.

Maybe this is one for a dedicated sub-committee of the Trust to work on?

Perhaps the attendance would swell if those on the gate rightfully regarded Gary and Radders both as two people, and myself and Roger as three people. Probably about right, sorry Rog <img src="/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

On a side note, at the Glossop North End I went to on Saturday there was another guy witnessing his first GNE match having recently moved to the area. He used to support and get involved with his local club in Cornwall, Salt Ash. Quite bizarrely he said he used to know a Slough supporter, and once upon a time met a certain Swedish Rebel at a Salt Ash match! Mats - you get around a bit don't you!

So it was you who I had a brief discussion about the game with before going in the Pub.I should have introduced myself to you.

I was a bit tied up with other things on Saturday, but I will certainly be there on another Saturday to watch The Rebels,I was there at the Wealdstone Game. Hopefully I will be bringing an American freind with me, as he thinks Football is a great game.

Chelsea don't read out any scores at half time now and their programmes only contain adverts from the same international companies each week.
I think a better idea for the larger local clubs might be to approach their fanzines for adverts. These would be cheaper and tend to be read by people with an interest in wider football than just one club.
As to fans forum sites I regularly post about Slough on the official and unofficial Chelsea sites and have had some responses, unfortunately mainly from people who used to live in the area but have now moved away who I direct to this site.
