At last! It wasn't pretty but the better of the two sides won. Capleton and Hooper were my MotM with Walshe not far behind (he's getting fitter, people).

 

Marwa looked promising too, added a sense of urgency to the midfield, and Armstrong had a couple of shots when he came on, showed some good ball control as well.

 

A much needed 3 pts but stiffer tests to come methinks.

We've had possibly the easiest opening to this season anyone could ever have dreamed of at FT after the Bedford game, and what've we got to show for it?

Without wishing to sound negative...

 

Carshalton are the worst team I've seen at Clarence Park for probably a good couple of seasons. I think EFM at their poorest could probably have squeezed a point out of the Bobbins (ho ho) on Saturday.

 

Nevertheless, a win is very welcome.

This is probably the lull before the storm. The next three games are relatively easy. But looking ahead I think it's going to be a tough Autumn.

A win was essential on Saturday and very welcome indeed. Marwar had an excellent 1st half hour before taking a knock and couldn't resume after the break. Parker did well during that period. Walshe is beginning to return to fitness and strikes the ball very well indeed. Migsy is not the solution to the problems up front. I was surprised that he took Martin's place at centre-back with Seeby left on the bench.

 

Carshalton were very poor in the first half but, despite dominating the game, we could only manage one shot on target which produced the two goals.

 

Strangely, they murdered us for most of the second half. Lee Clarke's's goal on 64 minutes was our first attack of the period, and was our only other shot on target. [in the] second half, they created half-a-dozen chances, only one of which was taken.

 

In view of Marwar's limited time on the pitch, my MotM was Capleton who had an excellent match.

 

The manager's wife is pregnant with twins. I forgot to tell her not to stand under the floodlight pylon outside the boardroom.

 

One or two disturbing rumours in the clubhouse but I never pass on rumours.

 

As Laz said, it's going to be a long Autumn.

From what I have seen, there are only two serious contenders in this league, Hornchurch and Grays. The other 20 are all as bad as one another.

I missed the first four games of the season, but by my reckoning we haven't yet played a side who are likely to finish in the top 10.

 

Taken literally, your post is quite encouraging. A finish in joint third spot with 19 others is beyond my own expectations. [i wonder if the Chairman will have to pay the "Top 5 bonus" to t'lads in that event?].

I am led to believe from someone who watched them pre-season that Cambridge City are not that good and that at times on Saturday the Saints looked a better side and certainly more organised

Possibly right - was going by league position, which I guess is a little too early to be particularly accurate.

 

Nevertheless, I agree with AFF. I do not believe we are the third-equal best team in the league.
