Slough Town 3 Braintree 0

Recommended Posts

2 from Matt Murphy, 1 for Josias, all in the first half. Excellent football which faded a little in the second half, but that was understandable with the heat. Another home win, another clean sheet and although Hodgey might not agree, good to see the goals being spread around.

Also mention for Jake, who made an excellent save from a free kick when the score was 0-0.

Very good first-half with both sides playing some very good football. Took our chances very well. Neat finish from Josias then two excellent strikes from Murphy who played well.

They did not deserve to be three-down at half-time, but some of their defending was awful. Second half in the opening fifteen I expected them to come at us with Slough being on the back-foot, but that never came.

Encouraging win against a team with a few faces who were regulars for Hornchurch last season.

I believe the attendance was 354.

I thought Braintree were awful and can't understand how they were unbeaten before today. We played well in the first half with once again Murphy looking an excellent addition to the side. Second half we sat back but never really came under pressure; basically we did whatever was needed just to hang on which, in the heat, probably wasn't a bad idea. Hopefully we will get a good game on Tuesday against Staines who have also started well. It would nice to get our first away win of the season at their place.

I thought it was announced as 364??

No mention of the substitutions today then Radders, or did I miss some injuries?

Oddly enough, I agree totally with Foxy Boxy. The pressure from them simply never came and how they've been unbeaten with that defence is beyond me. Maybe it was simply an off day for them.

Nice to put a face to the name of the Flagster as well.

As well as the win today it was nice to see our players all keep the heads when confronted with some less than sportsmanlike play from our visitors. Although it is to be expected from any team of Borg, some of the persistant after ball tackling was still dreadful and we rose above it well, with one particular time with Wilko sticking in the memory. I thought that our lack of reaction and general whining did help us gain a couple of 50-50 decisions which just goes to show that referees can sometimes be won over by teams who actually play the game.

Ok, it was never going to go on forever. (Our unbeaten run)Don't think anyone would of been arrogant enough to think it would. Unfortunately for us we just were not at the races today and Slough took advantage of that, a few individual errors were seen and players who previously performed brilliantly in previous games had a minor blip, but it is not my style to point fingers, it achieves nothing.

We come into this game in good form on the back of 6 unbeaten games and lost against a very good Slough side who had not lost at home since Windsor did them on Boxing day. (Info. Courtesy of Tuffley at Half time, Thanks.)

We will return, just put it down to a bad day at the office we all have them and footballers are no different.

The amount of shots on target was a major factor, I had it down as two. One in the 13th min Bradley Quinton free kick and the 2nd one from Bertie Brayley in the 41st min.

That was it, 2nd half some possession, but never felt or believed we were going to mount a come back.

-------------------------------------------

The Stats 1.0 14th min

2.0 36th min

3.0 44th min

Attendance was 364, we had about 25 including our officials.

It was pleasure to meet the Slough lads from Non League Uk, one of the lads Gary, told us to keep our head up at half time 3.0 down and wished us luck. Nice touch. Thanks.

The first half heat meant we the fans wiltered in it, I tried to get the boys to sing, but got told to give it up. I was just so hypo for this game, 2nd half we had a bit more shade. We had our 5 flags and I see the Slough boys had 3 down there end. 1 large and two small.

To their credit Georgie and his White and Blue Army still came over and clapped our travelling army, after this result. Cheers Boys.

No, you've said it now. Editing it won't change that. I wonder if I can ban you for it?

As I said somewhere else, good to put a face to the name and see you back at your place - we'll have a few more than 25!
