Ford Sports' Eagle Bitter United Counties League Premier Division title hopes have been dealt a big blow by the loss of top scorer Matt Murphy to Ryman League Premier Division side Slough Town.

After spells in UCL football with Long Buckby, Cogenhoe United and Irthlingborough Diamonds Murphy joined Corby Town and became the Steelmen’s record transfer in 1993 when he joined Oxford United.

After eight seasons with Oxford he had a season apiece with Bury and Swansea before retiring from the professional ranks through injury at the end of the 2002/03 season.

Brief spells with Kettering Town and King’s Lynn followed before he linked up with Ford Sports in October 2003.

Murphy (pictured), 33, bowed out in the 1-1 FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round draw at Newmarket Town on Saturday after netting 33 times in only ten months at the Royal Oak.

In the replay on Tuesday night Murphy was replaced by James Sugrue in a game which Ford won 2-1.

Ford Sports’ player-manager Shane Geary has put in a seven-day approach for Division One side Blisworth’s striker Colin Cooper.

Yeh thats him. Searched the net for some info on him and he seems to have a good scoring record. Lets hope he can be as good if not better at Slough once at match fitness.

According to the Observer he has signed a contract. Anyone in the know as to how long that contract is?
