Good luck with your walk, hope you raise lots of dosh.
Just a point, how come only 14 people are walking? When Maidenhead walked to Staines 2 years ago, we had over 50 walkers!!

Keith,
It's the way things are with the supporters down at Slough. It always is the same bunch of people helping out with ground work and so on...
A lot of people are able to commit to the walk which is fair enough, but the vast majority aren't interested in supporting the club beyond turning up on matchdays and paying their gate money.

Why should we do anymore than turn up to be entertained, we PAY for the privelege.

If I go to a restaurant, I pay for my meal, I don't expect to do the shopping first, and wash the dishes afterwards.

Also, if the meal is repeatedly no good I stop going until the chef is changed!

Why is a football club any different?

Have to agree, its bad enough watching them most weeks let alone walking for the privilege. It is a good gesture from you guys but money for the ground development fund? Well after saturday only another £2 million needed to get as a NEW ground (which is what we need)!!!

Sorry 'Football Fan' but that is one of the most pathetic postings I have read on this Forum.
You comments saying why should you do anything else but just pay your money is rubbish.
Maybe that would be the case at a Premiership club or Division one club, but especially not in the Bloody Ryman Division One.
Without volunteers to organise events such our walk on Saturday to raise amounts of cash then Slough Town would certainally not be alive as no longer can ONE sole person finance a football club.
and without the hard work of the STSA the club would be in a bigger mess than it actually is.
Check out Bury FC's situation recently - They are in Nationwide Div 2. They face going into liqidation at the end of the season and they have been trying to raise all the money they can with certain events for the club because one man alone cannot afford to finance that club.
Also ask supporters of teams like Wealdstone and Maidenhead they will certainally agree that supporting their side is far more than just turning up on a Saturday afternoon.
Agreed, you do PAY for the privalage to watch the match where you SHOULD be entertained, but you would not have the privalage to watch that team was it not for those hard working supporters.
If you really were a supporter then you would realise the for the foundations to be right ON the pitch then they have to be right OFF the picth - I thought watching STFC over the last few seasons would have taught you that.
Go and watch Man Utd eh!

Well I am sorry, but not surprised, that your blind faith in what amounts to no more than a game seems to upset you so much. As I have previously stated I, along with many others come to watch a game of football, it doesn't matter in what division or whether or not the team is succesful. When the club lives beyond it's means and treats the fans as a necessary evil, then it does not deserve those fans. I have supported Slough for over thirty years and have never seen such blatant disregard for the fans.

Certainly, any charity for deserving causes should have all the support they can muster. I for one will continue to raise money for charities that can change peoples lives. Yet another football club is not one of those. I will be sorry to see the demise of Slough Town if it is to be, but no one will suffer if it does, and if they do then their priorities lie in the wrong place. It is only a football club involved in just a game. We will all find other clubs if need be, or perhaps the passion shown could be used to build another Slough

Football fan and Chris, you are both right in your own ways.

Like it or not, at non league level few clubs pat their way. Most need some other form of income--be it from fans or an owner/benefactor. If you can get support from both , so much the better chances of being successful. You could perhaps argue that donations to STSA are more a donation to something you believe in, than the usual concept of charity, but the fact still remains that the clubs owner is willing, on occaisions to pay for wages, but has little or no interest in funding other running costs. The stewards, ballboys etc all give their time for free. The ground is tidied up and painted in the summer by people giving up their time for free. Perhaps it shouldn't be that way, but it is, and unless its done, the club would fold.
All the small bits and pieces done by STSA keep the club going. I'm willing to support that, but a long time ago I decided that giving money directly to the club was a bad idea--it would only be spent on another underperforming, unmotivated has been like Chris Allen reputed to have been on £1,500 a week. Like Football Fan, I can think of better charities than that. At the moment however, keepng the club alive, which I think STSA are doing, is worth a bit of everyone's time and money, if you want local non league football to survive.
