but maybe (wrongly) she felt she owed something back to the people accusing her of letting them down

Cynics are quick to jump on Beckham/Owen etc. when England fk up in the Euro's, but how dare anyone slate our national treasure Radcliffe.

 

CANV is right - it was an insult.

 

Question - does anyone actually know who won the marathon in the end? I, for one, don't believe this info has been disclosed to the world.

the reason beckham got slagged off was 'coz he didnt pull his weight and never held his hand up afterwards

it is an insult to the other atheletes.. what if your in the badminton final for example and your a couple of points from winning and the other player just walks off cos they feel they cant win..its beneath them to try..

and crap in a race does sum it up nicely.. her list of medals in the olympics and worlds are? maybe we could get her a couple of male pace makers and let her run seperatly next time..

The relevance of who won the marathon is that 'our Paula' will now be offered around £300k to go head to head with the Japanese winner in the Tokyo marathon later this year.

 

It was all a big marketing ploy on her behalf I reckon so maybe she does deserve a lot of credit. Oh, and don't forget the money she'll get for next years London Marathon.

As soon as she thought she couldn't win she dropped out. The two British girls in the marathon finished in something like 25th and 29th. The British girl in the 10k finished about 5th ? and the Irish bird somewhere lower. Sonia O'Sullivan still finished her 5k? run even though she was getting lapped by Steve Backley warming up, and the shot put fella on a lap of honour.

She could finish the 10k though, she told Gunnell afterwards that she pretty much was aiming just for a medal and once she thought she couldn't get one dropped out.

1. no not sure where u got that from.. waste of space for quitting mm maybe

2. the other runners in the race and whoever was left at home to accomodate her in the 10k team

3.im not sure what 'point' you are making here.. i was comparing her dropping out when she realised she couldnt win with say a badminton player doing the same thing.. the points bit was to indicate the quitter was about to lose.. how about the england rugby team walking off the pitch cos their quads have tightened up?

4.i believe they based that on times run recently? our quitter, sorry paula was the fastest by a good way..

5.surely her ability to run faster n further than me dosent prevent me voicing my opinion oh her chucking in the 10 k olympic final? gonna make any footy chats we have on here a bit bland. or music ones.
