have spoken to certain mr Canham today and have the story on his departure......makes interesting reading. Dave had been working his nuts off trying to get us a sponsor and it is he who landed the jacetts sponsor this season, and after working 14 weeks, yes 14 weeks, without any pay whatsoever and after tryng his hardest for the club for 2 and a half years was made redundant by Kieth Piper on tuesday last. Now i for 1 had many dealings with Dave and feel that i must express my disgust at the the way Margate football Club have treated dave after sticking through the tough times with NO PAY i am appalled,GOOD LUCK DAVE IN THE FUTURE I PERSONALLY WISH YOU EVERY SUCCESS.

If this is the way KP treat the people who are most loyal to the club then we are in for a ropey ride!!! <img src="/images/graemlins/wall.gif" alt="" />

I do belive KP has done a lot of good work for MFC,but,if this is true, then one of the best servants for MFC has been let down and let down badly,we need MEN like DC a true and honest man that can only take MFC back to where it belongs in conf; Football

It is not only loyal servants to the club KP is treating badly.KP made certain comments on Saturday about people who cannot get to Ashford.Quite simply there are now twelve people who will never ever go to watch Margate again all the while he is there. These are people who have followed the club for a damn sight longer than he has apparentley been helping??? the club!!!!!!!! Simple as that!!!!

I would also like to thank Dave and his family for all the hard work they have done for the club over the years, they do seem to have been treated very badly indeed.

Margate Football Club were horrified to read the first post on this thread which implied that Dave Canham leaving the Club was anything other than mutual and amicable. We immediately telephoned Dave to let him know what had been written and to ask him if there was a problem. Dave has told us that he spoke to this person whilst visiting a friend in hospital and that what he said has been taken out of context.

As we announced in our press release the Club have been forced to reduce costs due to the delays in our redevelopment project. This meant that the Directors could no longer justify the salary of a Commercial Manager who did not have a project to sell. Not wanting to lose Dave they offered him the only alternative they had, which was to stay at the Club and work on a commission only basis. Unfortunately, Dave felt that this would not be an option for him and subsequently opted for redundancy.

On the subject of unpaid wages, Margate Football Club have made no secret of the fact wages have gone unpaid, however, this applies to all the staff. At the end of the 2003/4 Season the Directors advised the staff that paying the wages throughout the closed period would be very difficult and relied upon the Heads of Terms agreement being signed. All of the staff, including the Manager, showed great loyalty to the Club by choosing to stay despite this situation.

was only reporting what i was told, will say no more on the subject as i will not be made out to be a liar because that is one thing i am not maybe i should have kept this to myself but felt it only fair that people knew AND i did tell dave that i was going on the forum when i got home. I am not [***!!***] stiring and next time i hear any info then i will keep it to myself, only from what was being said around the terraces i thought it only fair to let people know the story!!!

and there was other bits of info said but i choose not to publish it.was just wondering what bit was taken out of context is any of it untrue??no? YES dave got the sponsor,YES dave worked for no money for 14 weeks(and i am am aware that everyone else has too)and YES dave was made redundant and YES it was unexpected and unfortunate so can someone tell me which piece was taken out of context, and if i have then i sincerely apologise but the bottom line is that dave was a loyal servant to mfc and now is unemployed and was only pointing out, as this thread shows, that he has the support of the fans for which he is one and says he will return to watch the gate play as a fan in due course!!end of subject i hope!

The problem with our siege mentality of late is that in the vacuum caused by lack of news and information, and in the case of Dave's departure, as we all love him, there is perhaps a readiness to over-react. The other uncomfortable thing is that people do seem always ready to think the worst in any situation. I noticed that on previous forums too. Perhaps that is because we have come so very close to facing the worst that could happen to our club.

The thing is, we have a team and are playing, not to our best, that is still to come, but we have lots of genuine football banter and argument to look forward to. There also seems to be more news available from the club, so perhaps things are looking up on that front too.

We could all give ourselves a better time if we kissed rumours and character assassinations and kneejerk reactions goodbye and sat back and enjoyed our season. All is not always going to go the way I want, or you want, and if it did, very few people would probably want the same anyway. But hell, argue with me all you like!

If you see most of the negative stuff as an indication as to how much people love the club, as if they did not care they would not post, then there is a base of support there that we can build on for the future. But let's all stick to the game. The game's the thing, after all.
