A super performance today to net our first ever win in the Conference. We dominated the first half and deserved our half time lead. In the second half we had to weather a real storm from Exeter but we defended strongly and limited Exeter to just half chances.

 

At the back Chenners was outstanding winning everything in the air. Dave Mcghee had a solid game as did Smithy who made a fine tackle in the second half just as the Exeter forward looked like he might get in on goal.

 

Danny Potter was in commanding form in goal, taking crosses comfortably and making a superb save as the first half drew to a close.

 

Ben Sedgemore dominated the midfield whilst Matt Josepth and Duffers worked hard down the flanks.

 

Boylan and Greggors battled well up front, with Greggors influential in the goal, his header striking the post and ricocheting off an Exeter defender and into the net.

 

Found the stewarding a bit over officious. They certainly don't like you standing up!!!

 

Also very surprisingly I got asked for ID in the Exeter bar!!!!! OK I don't look my age but I've never had a problem in any of the bars I've been in all over the country!! I decided to do the sarcastic trick with the barmaid. "I'm 25 and a civil servant!" I said indignantly. I then showed my old uni card muttered something about having to be a member of MENSA to get into uni before I was 18 and luckily common sense prevailed.

 

I was then charged only £6 to get in!!!! I thought admission was £11!! Do Devon people have no conception of people's ages!!

 

Anyway great day and a brilliant atmosphere on the coach coming home helped greatly by the news of two more gold medals in the Olympics.

Well played today. Out played us in the first half. Was our worst performance for many a year and you took advantage.

 

As for paying £6 - thats the price for concessions (students/oaps/kids) so as you flashed your NUS card you paid the right price.

As a 'neutral' - wellsort of - Urchin fan sitting with my Grecian mate - & had to support the boys in Red & White - whilst championing Canvey as the best side to visit our place last season, I hae to say the game lacked the quality I expected.

 

Brilliant hospitality from the Grecians - & the Canvey support really got behind their team - it's a trek & a half.

 

I think it was a fair result, & I understand from Joey that was the worst display he's seen for an age. He was tonking eveweb into the arly hours, venting his frustration.

 

Wish both clubs all the best & hope Exeter manage to turn the corner on the field & off it.

 

Sincerely hope if we do make the Conference next season we'll extend the same genuine welcome Exeter showed yesterday.

I think todays NLP match report is spot on, we took the game to Exeter first half and should have been more than one up at halftime. Second half Exeter put us under a bit of pressure but never really looked like they would score. Also in todays NLP is an article on Lee Boylan which is worth a read.

 

Really enjoyed my visit to Exeter, (3 points made it better) their fans made us welcome and the food and beer was good. Also nice to hear the appreciation (unlike at Telford) for the contribution the Canvey fans made to the bucket collection.

Thing is I didn't show my NUS card at the turnstiles. I only showed it in the bar to prove I was over 18. As the expiry date on it is June 2000 then I would have to be at least 25 unless I'm a member of MENSA!!

Guy on the turnstiles must have thought I was a student!!!

Maybe I should have shown him my civil service card!!!

I too got asked for ID although im 18 & do look older. Annoying thing was that i didnt have my ID on me as i never need it. Didnt mind to much though as there bar seemed to be like a morgue & i found a nice pub just down the road.

 

What a great day & game it was, first half was some of the best football we have played for a while and second half we defended brilliantly when we had to. When gregory won the header it seemed to take ages to hit the bar & go in of there defender.

 

Everyone had a great game but Ben Sedgemore really does look like a great signing. his passing & vision is some of the best iv seen at this level.

Listened to it on BBC Essex yesterday, and the travelling Canvey support was well vocal. "King of the Pikeys" sounded happy enough afterwards and (quite rightly) recognised the contribution of the Yellow Army who made the journey.

 

Was nice to hear your friend and ours helping the commentator, too. Sounds like he's settled in well.

Yep support was excellent. Probably only about 60 of us there but we made quite a bit of noise!!!
