those people gloating over the brotherton incident should know he wsa not knocked spark out as some would have us believe in fact when the player hit him he was lying on the ground with the player on top of him holding him down .

as for the ref did he turn a blind eye or was he just blind. [color:"blue"] [/color]

Due to the dire weather on Friday Roy & Frank were unable to cut the grass for Saturdays game which they had planned to do. They are as we speak "Mowing our Lawn" .

FYI - not only does the "lawn" need mowing; but everytime the "tractor" gets back to the original side all the grass is emptied and then barrowed out of the ground; takes over 4 hours;

what a great way to spend your bank holiday....

so no more mowning about the pitch; unless you want to pitch up and help

BILLY did a great job for the Town and im sure JC would agree with me but things change players come and go we need to look forward and not backwards ,we,ve seen how the team performs on good surfaces hopefully leverstock will have a decent pitch regardless to the amount of injuries we have im still confident we will win.

How do you know so much about refs then Twaddle?

Too much listening to John Taverner's "interesting" referee's stories.

Interesting is an interesting word to use but not as interesting as a Len story.

Even if Jim wanted to get anymore players in they would not be eligable for Tuesday.

But did you know that a certain Keith Eglington (referee last Tuesday at home to Romford) was one of the linesmen at Southbury Road on 16th December '95? The match: Enfield v Yeovil (2-1).

At that same game Keke St. Hilaire was a mascot. (Martin was playing for Yeovil at the time).

I mean there is always a chance you could end up with a local official, but lets be honest, does it really matter. I don't honestly believe that just cause a referee is local he's going to be biased.

I don't have a problem with referees being local as such. The biggest problem can come when a referee comes from the same league as the opposition, not in terms of location but in terms of the different styles of refereeing in various parts of the country. Referees may be more or less lenient towards "heavy" tackling or players screaming for every decision if that is the norm in the League they ref in and this may be completely the opposite to what the away team are used to. This can easily come across as bias. Away teams can find themselves needing to adjust very quickly if they are to survuve and some get knocked out as a result of not doing so. At the end of the day, it's part of the luck of the draw with the Cup.

PBT, I think you are spot on with that analysis, I couldn't have put it better.Different Leagues have different styles, and referees do go along with those styles.

I mean the referee's at your level are now assistant referee's on Conference South, Isthmian (Ryman), Southern, and Eastern (Ridgeons), and have to change their styles and maybe even interpretation of offsides every game which is difficult.

The Eastern league (in which AFC Sudbury play) although at step 5 for playing purposes is in fact the next step up in refereeing circles (due to the fact that otherwise all referee's from Norfolk, suffolk would have had to go on the Ryman in years gone by), so they would be used to the calibre of referee that have got promotion from your level. But in the FA Cup they will invariably get someone who referee's step 5 and therefore not as experienced for arguably a "bigger" match

Saturday's match was a terrible advertisement for football at this level.

I took my 3 boys and 2 of their friends to see the game. All were standing behind the Enfield Town goal (why they were at that end I don't know!!) at the time the Leverstock Green attacker / striker / thug put Brotherton out of the game. I had a hard time explaining to the kids (eldest is 11, others are aged between 4 & 8) what had happened. "But why did he punch him dad?" Difficult to answer in the context of a football match. I am going to the replay tonight - but I'm not taking the kids.

I also heard somebody standing near the Leverstock Green dugout (one of their supporters I guess) yell out to the offending striker "remember what happened last week" - sounds like he got sent off then too. Conjecture I know but hey - if you had seen the match .....

As our entire back 4 are injured (Snowden, GHall, Brotherton, Gant) I hope Matty Negus and the excellent Paul Campbell have an outstanding game tonight. Steve Baldwin should get a game too and he is a solid, reliable player. Attack will be the best form of defense.

Kitenge needs to turn and get the ball forwards or out wide quicker than he did on Saturday - he was caught in possession with his back to goal too often. Have a feeling Daniel Francis will play an important role on the wing for us tonight - I hope he gets his chance.

And talking of Daniel Francis, what did people think of the ref's award of a free kick to Lev Green on about 80 mins, when their defender slipped over in the area just as Francis was about to shoot!!!!! That was truly unbelievable!! The defender must have been at least 2 feet away from Francis when he fell over!!

I felt sorry for Massala - he looked a bit nervous to me, played a bad ball shortly after he came on and got a verbal lashing from Graham Hall. I thought he completely lost his confidence after that, though he did hit a marvellous 40 yard cross-field pass in the 1st half to Dean Nyman, who was judged just offside. Superb pass that. Massala looks a real talent to me, if he can handle the physical side of the game. He can turn a game given the chance.

Good luck to all the ETFC players tonight - they deserve some after Saturday.
