Gate find new Keeper

The Club are very pleased to introduce Olafur Gottskalksson as the newest MFC Squad member. Olafur or Ollie, was born in Iceland in 1968 and has represented his Country in both Football and Basketball!

Ollie spent three years at Hibernians making around 65 appearances, he then transferred to Brentford where he spent two and a half years before returning to play in Iceland.

We hope that you will give him a warm welcome when he turns out for the Gate tomorrow.

Can't wait for the Tannoy announcement of his name

Thank heavens we can call him Ollie. Must be a big fella though.

Perhaps we should have a competition - who can do a clean rhyming poem, or a terrace chant, using all the surnames in the squad (one that makes sense of course).

Or perhaps that would be too challenging, given our current line up.

OH NGONGOU.... You Look like Jjunju, and if we still had him, maybe Count Duku!

Annon, is smaller than Pullllman, and maybe possibly Green!

Charalambous, nothing ryhmes with Charalambous, his names to long, he's got no song... Charalambous....

no i concede, this is [***!!***]!

Probably great news.

Has CK actually seen him play though.Or is it another 'recommendation 'similar to Baltazar?

Is not the main problem midfield.

No matter who is in goal-even if David James and Phil Smith were both in goal at same time, until midfield is sorted and we can get the ball we will continue to get beaten.

Guess i stand corrected-obviously has a decent pedigree.

Still convinced its midfield where the problems are,and until thats sorted we will lose, and its also the reason that Che and Rocky do not score-the service is non existent

Now that would be better news.

I have resolved not to shave until we have more than two midfielders above sunday park football standard

By the way i think Olly the goalie is 36 and has played 9 times for Iceland.

If correct, when was the last time Margate fielded a European international who has played 9 times at full intnl level(i don't thnk Sierra Leone is in Europe but how many full int. caps has JK got ?

From a brentford match report 2 yrs ago.

"No doubt revelling in the freezing conditions Gottskalksson, rated as probably the best keeper in the division, had United players shaking their heads in disbelief twice within a minute midway through the first half."

i read somewhere that statistically he saves 85.3 % of shots on target. (stats over a season i belive)

cant find page again tho.

looks like a good guy to have, im sure he will help organise the defence no end! <img src="/images/graemlins/excited.gif" alt="" />

nothing can beat experance.

I saw Gottskalksson play many times for Hibs, the only reason he left for Brentford was because Hibs couldn't afford to renew his contract. He was an above average GK in the Scottish Premier League (no comments please)and most Hibs fans were sorry to see him go. 36 is not old for a GK so this looks to me like an inspired signing, although I worry what standard he has been playing at for the past year so he might need a couple of games.

I'm still trying to forget Graham Roope, the worst player I ever saw in a Margate shirt. I could be wrong but at the time he was in the England (cricket) team - was this the only time we had a current England international playing for us ?
