Strengthening needed

[color:"blue"]Chris has stated on Local radio & in the Local press that he's having trouble getting new players for the squad. It would appear from results and reports from people who've witnessed the games so far (thanks to the breakdown on Saturday I've only seen 2 friendlies) that the midfield and defence are weak.

If he can't sign new players because they're reluctant to come to Margate because of the financial uncertainty surely he can sign players on loan to bolster the side.

Well we need something i know grays are one of the stronger teams in the conf south but we were dreadfull tonight our defence is dire and tbh it has been for the last few seasons thereis a real lack of hight, and in midfield we are really missing Jay & Jake i think we all new replaceing them was gonna be tough but tonight really highlighted it.

There's been a lot of slagging off of Aaron Barnett for doing the dirty on Blues (allegedly saying he'd sign the contract, and then nipping to your lot 10 days before the season started). He was one of our best players last year, so is he not doing a good job for you ? Very solid in defence and scored some excellent goals.

Grays must be one of the promotion favourites, so losing to them is no disgrace - but getting stuffed like that must be worrying as there are stronger teams in the league.

Stortford Blue, Aaron is a great player and I am glad we have him with us, but last night was a bit like Canute trying to hold back the tide!

PeterW is spot on where our weaknesses are, we need another strong defender and someone in Midfield who can come forward like Jay or Leberl and Porter did to give more support to our forwards. We cannot expect them to do everything on their own. I can understand the calls for bringing Pullman on last night to a certain extent but I don't think it would have made any difference because the ball was not coming forward for us enough.

We also felt the lack of Bill very keenly last night. I think it is totally wrong to throw all the fault on the goalkeeper, if the defence has holes then he is the last line of it and given that we were playing aginst a full time side that have played together in the whole for much longer than 3 weeks pre-season it was on the cards that we might have got a drubbing. We held up very well in the first half after all.

Chris may have said he is having difficulty signing players, I did not hear the report, but would anyone want to play for a team that gets boos and catcalls from its so-called supporters like last night? Horrible to be witnessing something like that, even worse to be standing anywhere near it. Shame, shame, shame. I was gutted we lost so badly but that took the biscuit to totally jack me off.

I hope we can put this behind us really quickly and move on. A month ago we didn't even know if we would have a team and now it's this one must go, that one is not working, how fickle is the average supporter?

I may be an incurable optimist but I think we can still come good, so I will try to keep my faith with the team.

Absolutely agree with Margate fan. I was gutted like everyone else at the result but those cat calls, albeit borne of frustration, are not the way to get things going.

A couple of weeks ago we did not even know if we were going to have a team (or club) but now we do.

What we really want is to get those people who don't get to Ashford (and not just the ones who have recently supported the club but those who used to support it years ago and don't any longer) to get there and give the players and management some more support.

I don't suppose for a minute that any of those Margate players enjoyed being on the end of a hiding last night, do you?

Chris Kinnear has been a winner for us for about eight years now in recent years he has kept us in the Conference by right and against all sorts of odds. Almer Hall, who produced some great Margate sides in the 50's and 60's never had the problems that Chris Kinnear has had.

Wouldn't Chris Kinnear have loved to have regular gates of around 3,000 (even 1800 for the reserves) and a few club houses for players knocking about.

We aren't going to get back to that but let's show him and the players some support.

Sounds like a letter to the Gazette coming on!
