Scott Ward

After the departure of Smiffy to Crawley and the disappearance of Venter (trialling at Carshalton) we were left without a 'keeper. Chris and Kevin seem to have unearthed a gem in Scott Ward

[color:"blue"] Yes I did write that (before the Bognor match), but underneath it does still say: Too early to tell if Scott is a find or a duff buy, the pre-season saw him play against a lesser product who never really threatened his goal. First impressions say he looks confident with the ball and his distribution is better than Smiffy last season.

Think what CK unearthed was the fertalizer surrounding a cabbage when he got Ward, if capitol punishment was legal still i'd still be givin him the lashing of a lifetime right now!!!

Still feelin sick as a Parrot, need a cracker.

That was definitely the worst display I've ever seen from a Margate / Thanet keeper - four of the six came as a result of his errors.

The only ones that weren't directly down to him were the last goal - the stunner into the top corner - and the header from a cross, although some people said he should have come for it. So maybe five out of the six ? Plus there was the moment when he kicked a clearance straight at a Grays striker who was running on to score but got pulled back for handball - we got lucky there.

Probably the worst one of the lot was the tame low shot that went in as Scott stood stock still, it must have rolled straight past him - why on earth did he just stand there rooted to the spot ? Utterly beyond me what he was thinking of there.

I never want to see him in a Margate shirt again.

You may be right that SW is not up to scratch.

personally i'm not so sure at moment.

I think you are a bit harsh about his performance on Tuesday.

realistically ,we were spoiled with Smith.

More importantly, if the defence opens up in front of you, it does make life rather difficult for the goalkeeper.

Even more significantly, the game was lost in midfield where normally JK and Ac at least give us something.

Tuesday, GO and AC were in the no mans land wing back postions, Jk could not cover midfield on his own, because imo, we have 2 and possibly 3 new midfield players who are completely out of their depth;and give us nothing in midfield.

The problems stem from midfield.

That needs sorting first.

Then we need 1/2 defenders.

Third thing to address is goal keeper.

Midfield and defence need sorting first, especially midfield

Its boys against men in midfield.

Goodness knows what it wil be like in mid winter when strength plays an even greater part;and the tough guys start to throw there weight around the midfield area on dark and wet nights.

On the left, I'm not sure about Green. I felt that Clarke didn't have the confidence behind to push on in his midfield role. Gradley does look a little out of his depth in midfield. Barnett, Annon and Edwards look OK to me as a central 3. Oates on the right is clearly a good bet but for me, the jury's still out on Green. Having said that, it is still early and isn't it great to be talking about football and our club?

Imo Green has been either our best or in best 3 players in each game.

The one saving grace-pity about tuesday when he was obviously asked to cover central defence .He is a very good full back, and frankly so far this season vastly better than Greg who is playing in the no mans land wing back position.

Green with Clarke in front works ok.

Greg without Jay or similar in front is struggling big time.

Edwards was poorish against carlshalton and at fault for 1/2 goals at Dorchester.

Yes Gradley is probably out of his depth, although i have a feeling he could just make it-seems a bit slow for a young fit guy.At least he has a modicum of positional sense and as a midfielder does sometimes appear in the vicinity of the play ,and within 50 yards of the ball.

I better keep my own counsel on the abilities of our two other midfield summer acquisitions.

But yes-you are right-at least we are talking football and should be grateful for a team at all.

All i want this season is survival in conference south

Mr T

Not much opportunity in any match, but apart from one mazy dribble at Dorchester is one of those who seems out of depth i am afraid.

Is,nt quite so lightweight as Benevides who frankly seems to be 'riding ' on his two goals in friendly at Erith and has spent the rest of the time being everywhere the ball is'nt.In three league games , the play just bypasses him. When it has come to him he passes it straight back to the opposition or gets brushed aside.
